OUR MISSION
A re-alignment of the regional labor market to directly connect US companies to a diverse US tech talent pool.
In plain English?
We align all the moving pieces so that:
• local youth from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds
• receive the targeted training they need
• to enter and succeed at high-growth tech jobs
• for which US companies have real and growing need.
CURRENT LANDSCAPE
TALENT POOL
No Access to Foundational STEM Skills
Limited Access to Training, Supportive Services
DISADVANTAGED YOUTH
Lack of Resources to Pursue Education
?Need Job ASAP, Usually Entry-Level Low-Skill
LABOR MARKET
Deficient in Foundational STEM Skills
Training is NOT Led by Industry or Employer Demand
STUDENTS/JOB SEEKERS
Training does NOT Include Real-World Experience
?Education and Work Make Conflicting Demands
INDUSTRY
Labor Pool Lacks Necessary Skills, Competencies, Experience
Competitiveness Depends upon Rapidly-Evolving Technologies
US COMPANIES
Lack of Qualified Candidates for Tech Positions = H-1B
?Results in a Progressively Depressed US Talent Pool
?
A DUAL-CUSTOMER APPROACH
We serve US companies in developing a tech workforce that sustains their growth and competitive advantage.
We serve US youth from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds to enter and succeed at these tech jobs.
OUR METHOD || DEMAND-DRIVEN
• We work with partner company to develop hiring projections in tech, with the close participation of leadership, internal and external recruiters.
• Classify position openings by need into immediate (1-3 months), short-term (4-12 months), and long-term (12-24 months).
• Create position profiles that list the skills, competencies, credentials, experience, and other requirements to succeed in each position.
• Profile will outline company culture as expressed in core mission, values, workflows, and brand to ensure a good fit between employer and employee.
• Develop clear pathways to these positions: How can these skills and competencies best be acquired? How can they be refined through real-world experience?
• Pathways must include both classroom and non-traditional training, including boot-camps, hackathons, online courses, on-the-job learning, internships, pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, and other modes of skills acquisition.
We combine public and private funding streams to minimize fiscal impact on the company, including partial reimbursements for training costs.
OUR METHOD || OPEN-ACCESS
• We work with HR as well as partner workforce development, recruitment, and educational institutions to fill immediate openings.
• Recruit amongst current employees for up-skilling opportunities and bring new hires at entry level.
• Focus on short and intense training modalities resulting in industry-recognized certifications.
• We work with HR as well as partner workforce development, recruitment, and educational institutions to fill short-term openings.
• Recruit amongst current employees, recent graduates, and program participants completing pre-apprenticeship or certification modules.
• Focus on paid apprenticeship and on-the-job learning.
• We work with HR as well as partner workforce development, recruitment, and educational institutions to fill long-term openings.
• Recruit amongst current students at the high school, community college, and university level.
• Focus on aligning training program to openings, acquiring experience with summer internships and other paid work-study opportunities.
All training programs must include financial assistance and/or earn-and-learn components to ensure open access to diverse and disadvantaged youth.
