Conventions Of Last House On The Left– Setting Last house on the left uses the forest scenes within the beginning minute. The effect of using the forest shows it’s an area where not many people are situated, therefore anything can happen. We see this from the beginning scene. Other scenes also include the main character being dragged off to the forest and running away. You can use the forest setting for any genre where you need to build suspense.

Conventions of Eden Lake - Setting

Eden lake also shows a forest setting being used. Shots show the scale of the area, e.g. big lakes and woodland areas. Every aspect of the forest is used and this is something I wanted to apply within my own trailer. Showing the lake in one shot, then the forest at both day time and night shows how big and secluded the area is. Anything can happen and the characters seem like they are not on their own.

Conventions of Wrong Turn - SettingMost trailers who use a forest setting all show the scale of the area within different aspects of the trailer. Again this is something I wanted to also do. Wrong Turn shows how the forest setting is home to hillbillies who are cannibals and have deformities. The characters within the beginning did not expect the forest to have these inhabitants. This is what builds the suspense in the trailer. One by one they are captured and unable to find a way out of the forest.

Conventions Of PARANOIA - SettingLike the other trailers I decided that shooting my trailer in a forest would be most appropriate to my genre and target audience. Many trailers now use forests in horrors and the target audience is normally between 15-30, which is the same as mine. Forests are popular choices for horrors as they capture the negative emotion attached to them. That’s why within each shot I wanted to show the forest and how its is empty. I wanted to show a presence of my villain character without him even being in some of the shots. This is why from the beginning to the end of my trailer I made it clear to the audience why and how I used the forest setting.
