CDC Was started in 8th July 1957Founder ofCDC- Mr. William Norris.

The company initially was capitalized at $600,000.

The company assets was $2.6billion by 1986.The company sales was $3.3 billion .

CDC was recognized by BUNCH member.

The Primary business ofCDC was computing

hardware ,peripheral equipment and computerservices.

Its build the worlds first super computer.

CDC first diversification in general peripheralsproducts 1960.

CDC developed PLATO.(Non hardware area)

It was utilized in minicomputers for run the

software and for providing training andeducational programs.

Investment in PLATO is nearing $1 billion yetthe operation had never covered its costs.

In 1968, CDC purchased CCC to provide leasingarrangement for purchase oflarge mainframesystems.

Significant portion was sold in 1987.

Only 18.3% was given up with CCC.

In 1985- CDC posted records loss of$567.5million on sales.

The peripheral products group was hit hard by

competition from Japan and lower margins perunit.

Sales dropped 12 percent from the yearbefore.

Employment Training and Career outreach , were

also set up.

Its goal was nothing less than the revitalization

and renewal ofrundown urban areas.

City venture was set up as a for profit

corporation.

It worked in cooperative arrangements with

civic and religious groups , cities , states and

federal agencies.

Rural Ventures Inc.In 1979, Rural Venture Inc. was established ,

an agriculture cooperative akin to city venture.

The goal ofRVI was to increase the

productivity and profitability offamily farms andto improve the standard ofliving in farm

communities.

RVI was marginally effective.Norris blamed RVIs poor performance on the

government for its lack ofsupport.
