Pings, Tweets and Diggs: Understanding the World of Social NetworkingCourse #: SB 500Social networking tools are changing the way we live, work and connect with one another. MIAD Open Figure DrawingCourse #: SB 507Tuesdays, 7-10 p.m.September 14-November 23 (No session on October 12)This is an opportunity to draw from a live model without instruction. One model provides a variety of quick and sustained poses. Participants can choose to pre-register: $50 for 10 sessions, or pay $6 per session at the door.

Photography’s 20/20 Vision: The Humanity of the MomentCourse #: PD403“There is one thing a great photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment….realism is not enough — there has to be vision, and the two together can make a good photograph.” Robert Frank

Two premier educational resources, MIAD and the Milwaukee Art Museum (MAM), collaborate to foster the advanced photographer’s development of a personal vision. Coinciding with The Milwaukee Art Museum’s exhibition, “Street Seens” (January 30-April 25), this course examines important historical trends in 20th and 21st century photography, and how those trends have impacted individual approaches to making photographs. Students work from unclothed models. Instruction develops drawing skills and provides fi gurative work for portfolio development. A supply list will be sent to registrants. Beginning Drawing for the PortfolioGrades 10-12Course #PC 102A (a.m.) or Course #PC 102B (p.m.)9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m.Tuition: $165 Instructors guide students in developing observational drawing and sighting techniques, design/composition skills and creative problem solving. Since a portfolio develops over time, students should expect this class to serve as one of the many steps they take in creating a strong portfolio for admission to a school of art or design. Creating the Scholarship-Level PortfolioGrades 11-12 Course #PC 100A9 a.m.-noonTuition: $255 Relying on technical skill and product output is insufficient to create a portfolio that makes one’s work stand out among a pool of applicants. Students strengthen their portfolios through assignments, group collaborations, workshops on photo and digital documentation, slide presentations and weekly discussions to improve critique skills and the ability to communicate ideas. Drawing from the unclothed model is included in the studio work. Prerequisites: Must be a junior or senior working at an advanced level. Parental consent required for students under 18 years of age.

MIAD’S ADULT LEARNING POLICY STATEMENTEnrollment is on a fi rst-come, fi rst-served basis. Class sizes are kept small to facilitate individual instruction. Early registration is strongly recommended. A mini-mum number of registrations (usually 8) must be received for a class to be held.
