Getting Started
Creating Your Yammer Account
1. You will receive an e-mail inviting you to Yammer. Contact your MRO in the event that you did not
receive this e-mail. Click the [Accept Invitation] button. You will be directed to Yammer.
2. This screen prompts you to enter your profile information and create a password. Complete all
information and click [Next].
3
3. The next screen asks “Who Do You Work With”. Click [Next] to skip this page.
4. The next screen prompts you to join Groups. You do not need to select any additional groups,
although we encourage you to join Yammer 101.
5. This screen allows you to upload a profile photo. It’s nice to have a face with a name, and this will
help you recognize one another at the Panel Review.
6. A screen will prompt you to download the Desktop app. You DO NOT need to download the app.
You can do use of the Yammer.com features using your web browser.
7. You have now created your Yammer account. The next section will provide instructions on setting
up your profile and notifications.
4
Completing Your Yammer Profile Your profile is important, as it informs other members of the Patient-Stakeholder Community about you.
1. Click [My Profile] from the drop-down.
2. Click the [Edit Profile] button to edit your profile details.
5
3. Enter relevant information in the corresponding fields.
Managing Your E-mail Notifications Worried that Yammer will send you too many or not enough emails? You can decide how often and
which actions Yammer notifies you about via email. You can receive instant updates, daily, weekly, or
not at all – based on your interest in the conversations that are happening on Yammer.
1. To change your email settings, click on the icon in the top-right hand corner of your Yammer
homepage. Click [Edit Account] from the drop-down menu.
6
2. You will be taken to the Basics section of your profile. Click [Notifications] on the left navigation bar
to edit your e-mail settings.
Digest E-mail
One type of email that Yammer will send you is called a digest. The digest compiles the most active
content on your network and varies based on your Yammer activity. You can choose to completely turn
this email off or have Yammer send it to you on a daily or weekly basis. If you choose the daily option,
Yammer will not send you a digest on the weekend.
Real-time Emails
There are also options for real time emails. You can choose to have Yammer instantly email you when a
few different things happen on your network.
You can sign up to receive emails when you receive a message in your inbox, you get a new
follower, someone invites you to a group, someone likes a message you posted, or tips and
important updates about Yammer.
To modify the groups Yammer notifies you about, select the “Select Group notifications you
would like to receive.” A drop down will show every group to which you are a member. You can
choose to deselect or select to have Yammer email you whenever a message is posted in any of
these groups.

Using the Yammer Patient-Stakeholder Community
1. Log on to www.yammer.com
2. Make sure you are on the PCORI Patient-Stakeholder Community Network. If you are not, select the
“My Networks” drop down and select PCORI Network (blue arrow).
8
3. Once you are on the PCORI Network, select the drop down menu next to the “My Networks” page
that looks like a greyed out person (orange arrow). Select “Edit Account”.
9
4. From here you can manage your account. You can upload a picture to your profile using this menu.
When you have time, please visit the notifications section (blue arrow below). This is important so
you don’t receive too many unnecessary email notifications.
5. To go back to the “home” page, hit the “Back Home” button at the top left corner. Or you can hit
the home icon located at the top.
10
6. Once, on the home page, select the Yammer 101 group page which is located under the groups page
on the left hand side of the webpage. Here you can see conversations that other reviewers have
written and their responses.
7. To review files that are shared, go to the files tab. (see blue arrow below).
11
8. Once on the File tab, you will see a list of files. Click on the desire file to view it in your browser.
9. To go back, simply hit the back arrow button your browser. This will take you back to the list of files.
You can click on “Conversations” to go back to the conversations on that page.
12
10. Once you are back on the Yammer 101 conversations page (see screen below), go to your specific
PFA group. Look for the group located on the left side of the screen under “Groups”.
11. Once on your PFA group, send a message to the group by writing in the “Share something with this
group” page. Say “HI” or something of this nature. You can like other people’s responses here too.
13
12. Now, we will go to the Inbox. Here you can write personal (private) messages to other people on
Yammer. Go to the Inbox link on the left side above Groups or by clicking on the envelope icon at
the top.
14
13. Notice the list of read emails in my Inbox (blue arrow) and the tab to create a new message (orange
arrow).
15
14. There is one final way to communicate and that’s through the “Online Now” function. It’s located at
the bottom right corner. Here you can send instant messages to people who are online. (You can
send them to offline individuals and they will be delivered once they log back on).
16
15. Clicking on the black box will expand it and give you a list of names. Below is an example.
17
16. One final note. The “All Networks” Group page is a place where all reviewers, mentors and PCORI
staff can communicate regardless of which cycle or PFA you review for.
