Q magazine is published by Bauer Media Group which is a large German publishing company, that operates in 15 countries worldwide, as well as TV and radio stations. They produce 38 million magazines a week. Q was first published in 1986, setting itself apart from other music press with monthly production and high standard of photography and printing and also emphasising on style.

The Q music brand has expanded to Radio and Television, with Q Radio and Q TV being music entertainment that specialises in indie, rock ect.

Bauer Media is a cross media owner, it owns companies which make print products, radio and TV. This means it can use cross-media promotion. ‘Adverts’ for Q magazine can appear on TV or radio and likewise ‘adverts’ for q radio can appear on TV or the magazine. The advantages for cross media ownership is that it can expands the companies popularity and lead to more audience. Bauer media television acts as the content subsidiary which produces many popular music ,television channels such as:

•What type of photograph is on the front cover?  It is a photograph of three celebrities

•It is a close up, medium shot or long shot? The shot is been taken as medium/ long

•Discuss the composition of the image. The photograph taken of Jay Z is taken looking up to him, which shows that he has a high status and to represent rap music, he is in front of the other two celebrities (Lady Gaga and David Grohl). The image of Lady Gaga and David Grohl is taken straight at them.   The image is also been place more on the right side of the page so that when it is been over lapped by another magazine the customer can spot the magazine.

•Why is the image on the front cover important?  The image on the front cover is important because it shows who the magazine is going to talk about inside and also to attract the attention of the customers as the go by if they like any of these three celebrities.

•How does the image attract the audience? All three of them seem to be looking directly at you, which make the audience wonder what the magazine has to tell about them as well as they are all wearing black which works together even though they haven’t taken the picture together and it makes it stand out as it has been put on top of white background.

How do we know what is inside the magazine? The subheadings on the left side of the magazine and bottom right

•How is information arranged on the front cover? The subheadings that show who and what is going to be in the magazine is been put on the side of the left side of the magazine and on the bottom right. The magazine has used different sizes of text, putting the name of the three celebrities larger and in orange to make it stand out more and then in smaller black writing

•Why has this information been arranged like this? To attract audiences attention more •What colours have been used on the front cover? The magazine has used red, black, and white,

orange •Why have these colours been used? Red, black and white are usually the colours that represent

rock music and are also very noticeable colours that would attract audience’s attention. •Are there any iconic signs? Yes •What are they? The three celebrities are used as iconic signs to represent the type of music they

There are 166 pages in the Q magazine 40 pages in the magazine are just advertisements And 126 pages which are just editorial produced by the

Q magazine itself 64 of those page are just editorial images and 62 pages

are editorial copy The price of the Q magazine is £3.99 and the price of

Mojo is £4.50, mojo might be more expensive because of the CD they are giving out with the magazine and the amount of the advertisement in the magazine.

Out of the all the imagery used in the magazine 44 are original and 115 are from photo libraries

•3/ 4 of the whole magazine is original.•Getting 1/4 of the copy from other magazines or newspapers the production cost would have gone higher to cover the cost of getting the copy from them.
