Containerboard
Waste paper is the raw material used for the
Model Group's containerboard products. Over
390,000 tonnes of waste paper are processed
annually at the paper mill operations centres
in Weinfelden and Niedergösgen. Effective
recycling is therefore an essential activity for
the company.

The Model Group has three paper machines at two locations in Switzerland: Weinfelden (PM1, PM2)
and Niedergösgen (PM3). Both paper mills use only 100% recyclable raw material to produce paper
for the Group's corrugated board and honeycomb sheets. The plants manufacture testliner and
corrugating medium at grammages of 90–200 g / m².
Standard range The standard range – corrugating medium and testliner III – is supple-mented by several testliner quality levels, namely I, II and IV, as well as corrugating medium with stronger physical values, e.g. Medium- high performance. Several customers use this as a replacement for virgin fibre paper.
High-performance corrugating medium High-performance corrugating medium is often used in the fruit and vegetable industry, as it has specific packaging requirements. Major fluctuations in temperature place great strain on the packaging. However, the higher rigidity of the high-performance paper ensures that the packaging has no trouble handling this. Furthermore, food safety is guaranteed even with improved paper values.
Customer-specific physical valuesWe can even incorporate customer-specific physical values into the production process, ensuring that user requirements are met even more effectively. Today, standard paper types produced by Model are used in almost all branches of industry.
Energy and environment As a sustainably oriented company, Model prioritises environmental production and energy management. In addition to FSC certification, and certification for en- vironmental management in accordance with ISO 14001, the paper mill at our site in Weinfelden is the first in Switzerland to hold ISO 50001 certification for energy management.
In the medium term, energy management in accordance with ISO guidelines will also be introduced at the site in Niedergösgen to ensure environmentally friendly and energy-conscious paper production.
Closed circuit for paper productionOur Model Recover process collects and recycles used paper and board. It is part of the way in which the Group manages and develops paper production to ensure optimum energy efficiency and sustainability. This means that in addition to providing innovative, extremely high quality packaging solutions, the Model Group is also able to provide consulting, recycling and waste disposal services. As one of the few companies in the European packaging industry to do so, we operate using to a closed production process, and are therefore able to reuse paper fibres up to seven times.
