WEEKLY LANDSCAPE STATUS REPORT FOR DEL SUR R

For the week of 10/3/2016 - 9/9/2016

A message from your HOA Landscapers: Below are some highlights of items scheduled, items

completed, and plans for the next week.

October brings Halloween fun and fall Colors:

With the month of October, we will continue to see deciduous trees move into their fall cycle, with beautiful changes in leaf color and an increase in leaf dropping. It is also the time of the year to cut back all grasses and Morea plants back. You will see the landscape crews cutting grasses down low to the ground. This will push new growth and open the center of the plants to allow rejuvenation. Severe trimming back and thinning of the grasses will be done throughout the community but mostly along Camino Del Sur.

How does your Garden Grow? For the Garden lovers out there, here are some tips on what you should be looking to accomplish in your garden going into the month October. Remember to keep you garden beds moist as the warm San Ana winds will dry out shallow beds quickly.

October Continue to plant winter vegetables to extend harvest time. Fertilize the plants set out in September. Keep beds moist to ensure good germination. Pull weeds as they appear. Pick off insects and snails.

Saving Pumpkin Seeds: How to Store Pumpkin Seed For Planting: Remove the pulp and seeds from inside the pumpkin. Place this in a colander. Place the colander under running water. As the water runs over the pulp, start picking out the

seeds from the pulp. Rinse them in the running water as you do. Do not let the pumpkin pulp sit in non-running water.

There will be more seeds inside the pumpkin than you will ever be able to plant, so once you have a good amount of seeds rinsed, look over them and choose the biggest seeds. Plan on saving three times more pumpkin seeds than the number of plants you’ll be growing next year. Larger seeds will have a better chance of germinating

Place the rinsed seeds on a dry paper towel. Make sure they are spaced out; otherwise, the seeds will stick to one another

Place in a cool dry spot for one week Once the seeds are dry, store pumpkin seed for planting in an envelope and keep in a cool dry

place.
