ldquoThe 16th Street Mall has been an iconic and importantpart of our city for decades and is used and enjoyed by tensof thousands of people every day Over the years the Cityand County of Denver has worked diligently to create a vibrant

and County of Denver has worked diligently to create a vibrantdowntown that offers something for everyone But there havebeen recent incidents involving threatening and violentbehavior That behavior will not be tolerated and the City incollaboration with the Downtown Denver Partnership is takinga number of steps to address it

The Denver Police Department has already significantlyincreased the number of police officers assigned to the areaand is working more closely with prosecutors and the courtsto prevent offenders who are endangering peoplersquos health andsafety from returning to the area The City also plans to takeadditional steps in addressing public and environmental healthconcerns

The City and the Downtown Denver Partnership will beworking with local businesses and property owners to adopt aunified approach to preventing halting and reporting unlawfulbehavior on or near their properties

Collaboration with businesses and you the community iscritical to the success of creating a safer and more vibrantdowntown One way you can help is to encourage people toGive a Better Way Remind your friends and family that wecan more effectively support Denverrsquos homeless by directlydonating to support services rather than giving money topanhandlers
