While the ratio of books to children in middle-income neighborhoods is approximately 13 books to 1 child, the ratio in low-income neighborhoods is 1 book to 300 children

The “Digital Divide” in America
In 2007,among households with incomes under $25,000, almost half have no internet access.
This compares with only 5% for those with incomes over $75,000.

Connected Kids Kids today are connected:
To the web, to each other (Wi-fi, iPods, cell phones) They share music, photos, videos, IMs Why not books?
We need to make access to books as ubiquitous as music and other digital media
