Hue

If you are a culture junkie and you want to understand Vietnam’s myriad idiosyncrasies, Hue is an unmissable stop: you will find plenty of palaces, temples, pagodas and tombs. Its walls, once home to Emperors, will inspire you with awe.

Hue, located in central Vietnam and just an hour’s flight from Hanoi, used to be the imperial capital of the Nguyen Dynasty, which ruled the country for more than 140 years. The regime was characterised by the influence of French colonialism

Art-Deco Deluxe overlooking the Flag Tower Bastion and the Perfume River. Perhaps you would prefer to be amazed by the Oriental opulence (with a French accent) of the Voyage en Chine suite? However, if you really want to spoil yourselves (and if you can afford it) opt for the super-luxe Resident Suite; an impressive 72 square metre bedroom plus over 200 square metres of terrace with a 360 degree view, occupying the whole of the top floor.

In La Résidence, every feature tells a story and every little detail of the setting has been thought of. Black and white photos of Hue’s past decorate the walls, as dark wood and high ceilings accentuate its character. Paris-based interior

designer Brigitte Dumont de Chassart ensured conceptual and stylistic cohesion for this building, which was restored in 2005.

Moreover, La Résidence doesn’t only appeal to guests’ sight, but also to their sense of smell. They say a smell can not only influence your mood, but it is also associated with memory. This proves true in La Residence. Woody ylang is the unique aroma that welcomes you from the lobby and accompanies to your room. A mixture of cinnamon, patchouli and ylang ylang, inspired by the history of the residence and the waters of the Perfume River, it was composed exclusively for the hotel by acclaimed Laurent Severac, a French creator of botanical perfumes and essential oils, who has lived in Vietnam for nearly 20 years.

La Résidence is also well known for its splendid spa. In 2013, it was named Vietnam’s Best Boutique Spa at the World Luxury Spa Awards. It comprises seven relaxation rooms and a herbal sauna and Jacuzzi. Indulge yourselves with a 60 minute full body Vietnamese massage, followed by a 40 minute rice wine and ginger bath…an unforgettable unwinding experience on your honeymoon.

The attention to detail doesn’t only apply to the charming decoration and atmosphere; the staff and their quality of service are on top of absolutely everything in a genuine, yet unobtrusive manner. Everybody knows your name and room and will happily step out of their role in order to help you.

Special thanks to Mr. Puoc Dang for his formidable hospitality, and to Ms. Tran Thi Minh Tam at the Concierge desk for her charming efficiency. From restaurant booking to flights and travel enquiries, she will arrange anything you need.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience luxury at its finest in the heart of a cultural landmark.

Its main building and structure remains intact and some features, such as the first floor and stairs, are an authentic reminder of the past.

There are ten rooms in this original building, each with a different theme and layout. You may find yourself in a bird sanctuary in the D’Ornithologue suite or in a colonial

which still permeates some areas of the city. The historic Perfume River, with its charming boat rides, guards the ancient Imperial city while enriching Hue with an expansive atmosphere.
