Thursday study group So the New Year is

here and gym mem-berships numbers increase, at least until mid February when it all seems a bit like hard work and a bit too sweaty! This striving to improve the physi-cal, to work off that Christmas cake or those delicious jams purchased at the Advent Fair, is all

well and good. BUT WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THAT GREY FLAB-BY MATTER? (Just in case of any con-fusion, I am talking brains here!) Having been bam-boozled by recycled cracker jokes and reruns of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, what you really need now is a challenge!

An event to sort the Einsteins from the Joey Essex's. Some-thing where the winner would have their triumph cele-brated with a prize so fantastic it defies description. But where would you go for such a entertain-ing event...I hear you cry... Why Michael House School of course....

The Full House Orchestra has New Music! If you have been thinking of joining the orchestra now would be a good time as we are start-ing new music in preparation for a concert in May.The music we have just purchased in-cludes the Dam-buster’s march, an Abba Medley, music by Paul Simon, The Overture to the Beggar’s Opera and the Toreador’s Song from Carmen.

We will also be attempting to play a minimalist piece by Terry Riley. We already have in our folders Elgar’s Nimrod, Faure’s Pavane, The Great Escape and the sec-ond movement of Beethoven’s 7th sym-phony, (familiar to those who have seen the film The King’s speech). As you can see our music is wide rang-ing and none of it is very difficult. You are welcome to come and see

a rehearsal free of charge to see if you think you would like to join. Thereafter each rehearsal is £3.00 to cover the cost of the venue hire. We meet every Wednesday evening during term time 7.00-9.00 pm in St Lawrence’s Church, Heanor. It is a friendly or-chestra that wel-comes players of all abilities and ages. It includes many people with Michael House connections already, as well as

students from the University of Derby and other members of the community. To play in an or-chestra is a very re-warding experience. It helps to improve playing and listening skills, but it is more than just that, it is also about being one small part contribut-ing to a whole thing, which when it all comes together gives an amazing feeling of accomplishment. For more information please phone: Freya James 01773 760167 email [email protected]
