Third , ' That for all Dictionari es, pr inted in the manner, of a Lexicon, there shall be paid at the rat e of 5d., for settin g up and distributin g each thou sand letter s, or types, reckoned as aforesaid, and including heads, and dir ections ; bu t this not to extend to Dictionar ies, of Science, or such as, fr om their natur e, can be' considered only as common matt er, explained as, afor esaid, th at is, where no columns occur in th e'. page.'

47. The Fir st Section of the Interlocutor ref ers to workswhich run on without inte rr upt ion, where th e compositorcan readily take off his line in his memory, and set up hiscase equally. Th e Thir d Section refers to works in whichthe above process is interrup ted, as in L exicons, Catalogues,and Lists of Na mes and Places, &c., r unning on, or whereth ere are contract ions or old spellings r equir ing continualreferen ce to th e copy , and more time and attention thancommon mat ter. To the lat ter class belong English Dic­t ionaries done in the manne r of a L exicon, Indices, Glos­saries, Gazetteers, Auctioneer and Libr ary Catalogues,List s of P er sons or Pl aces run on, works int erspersed withScotch or Old E nglish, and Dictionaries or works of sciencewith scient ific nomenclat ure ; and also P harmacopoaias,when interspersed with L atin words and occasional medicalsigns; but when italics or small cap itals, &c., occur fr e­quently in any of these classes of works, they come underthe rule of Section VIII .

Section VI.-FOREIGN LANGUAGE.

sta ted, are propor tionally less than in any other scalewith which we are acquainted. Th ey were prob ably littl ein use when the Int erlocutor was passed. 4.farthin g addi­t ional per th ousand is given for Minion in L ondon, Dubl in,and the Pr ovinces, and the rise on smaller founts thanNonpareil is in all cases double th at of the Int erlocutor,which, it is hoped, will soon be ' augmented by proper autho­I rity, or of consent ofth e parti es inter ested.'
