Live Deeply IN Christ! A few weeks ago I was visiting my grandchildren in Lakeland. We had a pool party! My 8 year old grandson jumped right into the deep end. My soon to be 4 year old granddaughter surprised me when she jumped in and swam without the assistance of a floatation device or grandpa’s help. Then my one year old grandson strapped on his floatation device and jumped in on his own! Grandpa got pushed in! There was no hesitation or fear from the grandkids to jump into the deep end of the pool and enjoy a pool party with Grandpa! My daughter did caution me that if my granddaughter came up and didn’t take a breath then get next to her and help her along. The disciple John, in his three letters, challenges the followers of Jesus with these words, “…stay with Christ. Live deeply in Christ!” (I John 2:28 message bible) What does that mean for you? How deep are you in living out your faith in Jesus? As kids have headed back to school, no matter what grade level, they will grow deeper in their knowledge of various subjects. If they don’t they fail! If they get a passing grade there is still the test of applying what they have learned. We will begin a series of messages, September 10th that will take us through John’s letters and challenge and guide us to “live deeply IN Christ.” Some folks know all the Jesus knowledge but do little to apply it in their daily lives. Others do a lot of good without a real deep love for Jesus as their Savior. How do we combine them? How do we grow in our knowledge, love and faith in Jesus and at the same time “live deeply IN Christ” in our daily actions? One day after catching nothing, Jesus told Peter to go to deeper waters. Peter did so because Jesus said so. The result? A huge catch! After that Peter left his day job and became a follower of Jesus. (Luke 5:1-11) Jesus meets us where we are and challenges us to go deeper! Will you do so? He will be there with you. The results? God will surprise you with a great pool party in life! Live deeper IN Christ! Your friend in Jesus,

Ken

More from Pastor Ken…

2 at 2 on Tuesday Every Tuesday at 2 p.m. pray for two minutes! (2 at 2 on Tuesday)

Pray for whatever God lays on your heart about the life and ministry of our church. You can pray for

lives to come to Jesus; people to be faithful in coming to worship; financial provision; outreach

ministries resources and volunteers; unity in our community; and/or connectional ministries

with other United Methodist churches in our area. Who knows what ripple effect this prayer

will have on our church, community and our own lives. God does!

Cross Necklace Ministry From Iona Hughes…Each week we listen to testimonies in worship of how God used someone to

share His love with a family member, stranger or friend through the cross necklace. I was looking through some of the files from 2010 -2016 with notes and letters of response, I counted requests for information on the cross necklace ministry or for cross necklaces themselves…and came up with 70+ requests from all over the United States, and Canada, God has given those who wear the necklace an opportunity to share His love with others. We have shared OVER 16,500 cross necklaces!!!!

BIKETOBERFEST 2017 IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER... and once again we will have the opportunity for outreach ministry October 19th

through the 22nd. We invite and encourage you to be a part of this very important

event in the life of our church by volunteering with parking, being a concession worker, providing

food donations, working in helmet check or being Fellowship Hall hosts. Sign-up sheets are located

at the entrance/exit to the Back Porch or call the church office at 386-252-3655 to volunteer. No prior

experience is necessary. Bring a friend. Thanks in advance for your help!

OUR OUTREACH MINISTRIES

See Jesus in others and may others see Jesus in you. TALES FROM THE CLOTHES CLOSET…from The Clothes Closet Gang Once upon a time, as all tales begin, 2017 continues to pass quickly and before we know it, fall will be upon us. Donations have started to pick up and we are thankful to have the support of our church members, their family, friends and our neighbors.

The highlight of our month was a young lady, who has been a regular in our shop with her mother since she was a little girl. She came in proudly with two pictures of her school trip to Washington, D.C. and needed frames. One was easy because it was a standard frame, the second one was a challenge. We were able to find an appropriate frame in an area thrift store and you can see from her face, how pleased she was. We got smiles and hugs and it made our day.

We continue to need men's jeans, cargo shorts, bath towels, washcloths, blankets and silverware (particularly forks). We are in desperate need of backpacks and men's sneakers.

We appreciate our dedicated volunteers who enable all of us to serve the God we cannot see, by serving the neighbors we can.

VIEWS FROM THE BACK PORCH BIBLE STUDY … We have been blest by the participation of the folks and volunteers. We are continuing to study on Sunday mornings at 8:45 a.m. during our Have Life Sunday School Class. Our October Back Porch Bible Study is scheduled for October 6th and 27th. As always we begin at 6 p.m. All are welcome to join us as we read and study God’s Word. God bless you and please keep us in your prayers! Buddy & Mary

from Coordinator Sally Landress… A few weeks ago I was shopping in a nearby chain grocery store and ran into one of our Project Access clients. I was almost done with my shopping so I had quite a few items in my cart. He asked me if I had

the store's most recent coupons that had just come out in their monthly magazine. When I told him I did not, he went to customer service and retrieved a magazine for me. The coupons were very helpful and did save me about $3. He was very excited to show me that with one coupon you could get a bag of the store's brand potato chips for free, which I did. You can't beat free!! I told him how much I appreciated his help. His parting words were, "you have helped me so much with my food stamps that I am so glad that I can help you too". And that pretty much sums up what Project Access volunteers do each week. . Please contact me or the church office (386-252-3655) if you are interested in being a Project Access volunteer.

BREAD OF LIFE FOOD PANTRY UPDATE… From coordinator Carol Johnson… Our Food Pantry Outreach Ministry is working diligently to provide food for our neighbors. The TOTAL NUMBER OF MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN SERVED in 2017 at the printing of this newsletter was 10,272 with 4,417 bags of food! We appreciate ALL of our VOLUNTEERS who work faithfully on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the Food Pantry Outreach Ministry! Marc Jennetten supplies the data for reporting.

“HEAVENLY NAILS” and “CUTS FOR CHRIST” UPDATE… We are averaging 5+ people each Wednesday for manicures. Each manicure takes about 15 minutes and it is my pleasure and an enjoyable time hearing about people’s lives and families. Recently a young girl (probably 6 years old) wanted to pay for her manicure…she had 75 cents from her bank as a donation. I told her that was not necessary but she insister…thank you, Amber! Another comment I hear is a “Thank you – I have never had my nails done before!” We continue to receive phone calls in the office inquiring about the Cuts for Christ availability each Wednesday and are grateful for Clare who gives her time and talents to refresh our clients with clips and cuts and styles. The average number of clients is 10-12 each Wednesday. Thank you for continuing to encourage these ministries as we serve! Adel and Clare

VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED IN OUR OUTREACH MINISTRIES! If you have been considering getting involved with any of the ministries including the Bread of Life Food Pantry, The Clothes Closet, or Project Access now would be a good time to begin “seeing Jesus in others and letting them see Jesus in you!” Please call the church office (386-252-3655) to express your interest. The coordinator for the outreach ministry you request will return your call.

COMMUNITY UNITED METHODIST WOMEN The United Methodist Women (UMW) is an organization developed to serve women and children locally and worldwide. We are a mission organization. From our Purpose our focus is: to be a community of

women; to know God; to develop a creative and supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission. Some of our projects include raising support funds for the McCurdy School for Children; the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home in Enterprise; hosting the Angel Tea & Bazaar which will be held here on Saturday, December 2nd with proceeds going to local children’s charities; Family Renew; and projects here at CUMC. Please know that you do not need to be a member of the church – just respond with your servant’s heart. Once again, plan to be a participant in the mission work we do as United Methodist Women! Keep clipping and saving… From Mary Shepherd, Social Action Coordinator… Thank you to all who are saving Box Tops. The McCurdy Charter School uses these Box Tops to fund field trips and classroom projects for the children that could not have afforded otherwise! The Campbell’s program has ended. However keep bringing in the pink box tops and Tyson labels. They can be placed in the shoe box on the desk in the Cha-Ki-Lo Room. There is a listing of what to collect also in the box. In addition to helping the McCurdy School, Veterans can also benefit from collected coupons – especially those in the Sunday newspaper. Please cut them all and again place them in the shoebox on the desk in the Cha-Ki-Lo Room. These coupons may be as much as 6 months old and still be used by Veterans. Thank you. A “SOWING” CIRCLE IS MEETING…sowing seeds of fellowship and interest!

You are invited to be a part of the ministry of sharing ideas and expertise for those who are beginners and those who have become expert over the years. Participants will meet Thursday, September 28th and October 12th and 26th at 9 am in the Cha-Ki-Lo Room.

Come and bring a project you may be working on already, or just come to learn the process.

Notes and Messages received in the Church Office… This note addressed to Carol Johnson was received following a recent inspection of the Bread of Life Food Pantry…

Carol and Team! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing pantry with me . I was so impressed with your organization and your spirit to serve those in need in your community. I look forward to working with you in the future! Thanks for all you do! Patti DelaCruz Second Harvest Food Bank Thoughts from Gary Rich… I would like to share with you my observations on the short & dangerous prayer in Isaiah 6:8.

But first a little back-story is needed. Isaiah 6: 1-7 gives us details which leads up-to this prayer. Isaiah is given a vision of heaven with the Lord sitting on a high and exalted throne, with the edges of His robe filling the temple . Winged creatures were stationed around him saying " Holy , holy , holy is the Lord of heavenly forces . All earth is filled with God's Glory " The temple doorframe shook at the sound of their shouting, and the place was filled with smoke

And then it happens - Isaiah heard the Lord's voice saying : " Whom should I send, and who will go for us " ? Isaiah answers : " Here I am Lord. Send me". Do you see what just happened here ? God is putting out a divine help needed sign, but with no details at all on what the assignment is going to be. And Isaiah could have said something like - Hey Lord, where do you want to send me, or why ask me - there must be someone else who will answer your calling. But no, He simply says - ok Lord, I am here send me to whatever and wherever you need me to go. A pretty dangerous prayer answer. And guess what - God is asking the same question today that He asked Isaiah thousands of years ago

Now here is the best news about all this - God will give you the grace and power to serve Him. He will plant in you the desire to surrender to His will even though you may be scared of the consequences. Phil 2:13 tells us that it is "God who is working in you to do his will ". All you have to do is lift your hands to heaven and say yes to God's calling, grace will then take over. God will give you the power, strength, resources and a willing heart. And remember - the results will be supernatural because it is God at work in us

Luke 10:2 reminds us that "the harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few " . So here is the big question : are you ready to set aside all your fears and concerns - and invite God to use your life in any way He wants to ? Yes I know it is a dangerous prayer to say . But the eternal payoff will last forever. I will leave you with one final thought - do you want your earthly life to have an eternal impact ? Do you want to live each day knowing your living your life for eternal value ? Is it time for you to say to God : " Yes Lord - here I Am - Send Me " . The choice is yours ! Have a blessed day!
