Creekside students earn state math honors
The Baldwin County elementary school math teams recently attendedthe Georgia state-wide Mathfest competition in Atlanta. Students ingrades two through five from Baldwin County competed againstbetween 300 to 400 other students in each grade level. The top 25 stu-dents from each grade level qualified to move on to the SoutheasternRegional Competition. Creekside had seven second graders, three thirdgraders and two fourth graders who qualified as being in the top 25 inthe state in each of their grade levels. Sixteen Senior National Beta Club mem-bers from John Milledge Academyattended the Beta state conference inAtlanta with the motto ‘a volunteer stateof mind.’ Students spent the weekendparticipating in scholarship and scholasticcompetitions, attending leadership work-shops, and voting for their 2012 stateboard. The JMA quiz bowl team consist-ing of Cody Palmer, Anna Avant, GavinKopel and Granger Harpe even made it tothe second round of playoffs. SponsorJessica Jones and chaperone Traci Grantwere most excited about the enthusiasmthat the students brought back to theirclub, full of ideas and volunteer possibili-ties for next year to exemplify the club’smotto of ‘lead by serving others.’

Oak Hill Middle School Achiever's Academy students recently attended a program aboutmaking plans for their future. The team of speakers encouraged students to think criti-cally about their future through group activities. Mrs. McCroskey and Mrs. Johnson’s kindergarten class at Eagle RidgeElementary love reading books. While reading the story ‘Salt in HisShoes,’ which is a story about Michael Jordan growing up, the studentshad a chance to show off their own basketball skills. A mini fun day was held for Blandy Elementary School March 25 to rewardthe students that had met their AR goal for the third nine weeks. Studentswere rewarded with two hours of outside play on inflatables, the play-ground, and with equipment. They also enjoyed a great snack! Midway Elementary students study fossils at Georgia College

The lesson was on fossils and the students enjoyed an activitythat included ‘digging’ chocolate chips (fossils) out of a cookie. GMC students take part in bullying workshop
ER students study African-American inventors
Mrs. McCroskey and Mrs. Johnson's kindergarten class at Eagle Ridge Elementary enjoyed learning about famous inventors during their study on black histo-ry. The students learned about Garrett Morgan who invented the traffic light. As a closing activity to the day, students got to make their very own editabletraffic light. Special thanks to the parents who were able to donate the items needed for this project.

During a recent visit to Big Sandy Creek Dairy Farm the student’s inMs. Amason’s kindergarten class at Creekside Elementary got achance to learn about a dairy. The children went in the barn wherethe cows are milked. The children got a chance to see farmer Brownuses a machine to milk the cows. Pictured above is Davis Duke touch-ing one of the dairy cows. As a part of the trip the children went ona hay ride to see where the cows were fed. The students were givenice cream to enjoy as a product that is made from milk. Fourth grade teacher Beth McCoy was recently pre-sented the ‘My Teacher is Tops’ award from 13WMAZ
news. She was nominated by her student, PeytonJennings. McCoy and Jennings are part of the
Creekside family. Jennings stated in her letter toWMAZ that “she loved coming to school this year.”
Students in Maj. Stephanie Williams sixth grade Accelerated Math class recently completed a probability project where the students designed a dart boardthat had four regions worth different point levels. Each of the regions represented a different percentage of the total area of the board. Upon completion,students had to present their boards to the class and explain how they found the probability of each region. Many students came up with challenging shapesand designs, and no two boards were alike! These students worked very hard and showed their ability to solve this challenging problem.

Oak Hill MS Band earns honors
Oak Hill Middle School Band won 1st place in division and best overall Middle School Band at the annual Six Flags Music in the Parks Competition in Atlanta.Congratulations to all of the band students and to Oak Hill Middle School Band Director, Mr. Terry Bragg and Assistant Director of Bands, Mrs. Christie Edwards.
