  • COMMUNITY PROFILE

    Uptown, Minneapolis

Uptown is a vibrant commercial and residential

district located two miles southwest of Downtown

    Minneapolis. The neighborhood is conveniently

located with access to I-394, I-94 and 35W. Adjacent

to Bde Maka Ska and Lake of the Isles, Uptown is also

    a popular recreation area.

Uptown includes the Hennepin Avenue Corridor

that leads from Hennepin Avenue and Lake Street

to Downtown Minneapolis, as well as the Lyndale

Avenue Corridor leading to the distinctive Lyn-Lake

business node. Uptown has traditionally spanned

the corners of four neighborhoods: Lowry Hill East,

ECCO, CARAG and East Isles. All four are within the

Calhoun Isles community. Historically the boundaries

of Uptown are Bde Maka Ska to the west, Bryant

Avenue to the east, 32nd Street to the south and

    24th Street to the north.

  • Retail & Trade The Uptown business community is a mixture of

    independent owner-operated stores, franchises,

regional and national operators. The business base is

diverse with substantial consumer choices within each

    business category.

The three largest retail sections are Calhoun Square, a landmark shopping center at the intersection of Hennepin and Lake; Uptown Row, a 2-story commercial center, and the Hennepin Avenue Corridor which features independent boutiques selling designer clothing, vintage garb, furnishings and locally made gifts.

The Hennepin Avenue Corridor offers nearly a mile of retail options.

    Northbound leads to

    Downtown Minneapolis

    I-94 and I-394. And at

    over 26,000 vehicles per

day, it’s easily one of the

    busiest thoroughfares in

    Minneapolis.

    destinations in Uptown.

    The 3-story seafood

    restaurant features a

    prestige oyster bar and

    a roomy, industrial-chic

    setting.

Dining & Entertainment Uptown features an astonishing 60 restaurant choices

within a 1 mile radius. The venues range from business

lunch, casual dining, gastropubs, night clubs, fast food

chains, bagel delis, ice cream parlors and taverns. The

cuisine is a smattering of various multicultural and

ethnic choices, vegan, comfort food and American fare.

The variety draws patrons from all over the Twin Cities.

There are two movie theatres in Uptown, both owned

by Landmark Theatres: the Uptown Theatre and The

Lagoon. Both screen mostly foreign, cult and art films.

One of the most recognziable features of Uptown is its

many rooftop patios. Rooftop dining is offered at

  • Hip & Trendy Uptown was formerly known as a vibrant center for

artists and musicians, a center for counterculture and

hippies, similar to East Village, Manhattan. The artist

community was popularized by the musician Prince,

who started his career in Uptown. The area has been

though a lot of redevelopment but has retained its

bohemian spirit even as things have changed. Adding

to the mix are young professionals, students, families

    and recent college grads.

Today Uptown is known for its eclectic mix of

trendsetters, entrepreneurs and busy night life.

LA Fitness is the neighborhood’s premier

    fitness club offering several

    amenities, including an

    Aerobics Room, Kids

    Klub, and Cycling Room.

    As is common in Uptown,

the rooftop is a patio for

    socializing and dining.

  • Active Lifestyle Uptown offers direct access to the Midtown Greenway,

Minneapolis Chain of Lakes, and other outdoor

activities — a combination unparalleled in the urban

core. Its residents are highly active and can be seen

skirting around the neighborhood on foot, bikes and

scooters. In the summer, kayaks, paddleboats and

sailboats fill Bde Maka Ska and the surrounding lakes.

    The Midtown Greenway is

    a 5.5 mile grade-separated

    bike and pedestrian trail

    that runs through the heart

    of Uptown. Thousands of

    commuters use the trail

    every year. It connects to

the Chain of Lakes in the

    west, and the Mississippi trail

    system in the east.

  • Executive Housing Within one mile of Hennepin & Lake there are over

35,000 residents in over 19,000 households. The

housing options range from mansions overlooking

Uptown’s two lakes to a variety of single-family homes,

duplexes and multi-family buildings from the 1910s,

    1920s and 1950s-2000s.

The inner core of Uptown is a dense collection of

luxury apartments with chic living quarters, rooftop

    patios and pools.

The Walkway is one of several luxury apartments in

    the Uptown area. Amenities

    include hardwood floors,

    walk-in closets, quartz

    countertops, designer

    lighting, ceramic tile,

    underground heated parking,

    a car washing service and

more. The lower level is a

    cycle bar and an upscale

    restaurant.

  • The Carling

MoZaic Campus is a modern, amenity-rich

    office development

    consisting of two

    properties: MoZaic

    East and MoZaic West.

    It features a robust

    connection to transit,

    art plaza, rooftop patios,

    conference center

    and high quality data

    connectivity.

Office Development The Uptown trade area is a nonstandard office sub-

market, with much of the available office space

distributed across numerous smaller buildings, many

under 20,000 square feet. The construction of the

MoZaic Campus in 2018, however, added 275,000

square feet and the opportunity for larger office units.

The influx of professionals has increased the demand

for amenities as well as the daytime population.

food vendors and hundreds of volunteers.

    for guests but also

    contract parking for

    many of the surrounding

    businesses.

Parking & Transit Parking in Uptown is a mix of street parking, lots and

ramps. There are over 1,400 contract spaces within the

core, and many of the smaller business are serviced by

either parking meters, pay or private lots.

popular. The Uptown Transit Station offers over 1,500

trips per day, with connections to and from the light rail.

Most customers do their day-to-day errands on foot

or by bike. WalkScore.com rates Uptown a “97” as in a
