What is MMORPG?• MMORPG : Massively multiplayer online role-playing game.• A fictional character in a virtual(i.e fantasy) world• Follows a unique tale/story • Main idea : increase your level, form groups, collect items, defeat

dungeons/monsters/other clans• First MMORPG played with 2 people in 1973, at NASA (MazeWar)

• More than 10 million people registered.

Where is the money?• In warcraft the currency is Gold/silver/penyraces• You can gain Gold from• Quests, Items, and your profession and TRADING

• Professions : • Mining,Skinning,Leahterworking,• Blacksmithing,Alchemy,Jewelcrafting,etc.

• A virtual world created a real life-economy on internet• You can buy GOLD from internet• You can buy a character with high level• You can even purchase in-game weapons for real money

Guilds/Dungeons/Raids• Guilds: A group of people that join for

companionship, adventure and economic gain.

• Dungeons : Group of 5/10/25 people attacking the monsters inside

• Raiding: Large groups of people assaulting to monsters, dungeons or the other clan (Hordes to Alliances or vice versa)

• Most important aspect of the game. Forming groups of 5/10/20/25/50/

• Guilds are the perfect example for an online community.

Blizzard’s steps of Community2.0

• Observe and create a customer map

– Tolkien novels –middle earth stories, role-playing card games,fantasy worlds,friendship,excellence/achievement,team-work, and war …

• Recruit community members– Blizzard used warcraft Lores– Blizzard uses a memership fee of €15 per/month

• Engage ommunuties in– Blizzard added : Guilds,Raids and dungeon instances (at least 5 people) – This is automatically engaging groups in the game online.– Some guilds have thousands of people underneath them.

• Measure the involvement– Blizzard used server capacities for measuring involment . – Blizzard added more and more Realms (server) to the game– Migration among server to handle the traffic (Russian players mostly)

• Promote your community/ improve community benefits– Never-ending extention packs , new Characters, new Maps, new Monters, new Dungeons, new Kings,– Blizzard uses heroic sets , in-game festivals (christmas,haloween,etc) and gives out gifts
