Communion
June 26, 2010
Memory Verse“He who eats my flesh and drinks my
blood abides in me, and I in Him” (John 6:56)
Forever Together • Why do we come to church?–We come to pray together – The Lord gives us His Body and Blood to
live as He lives +++ FOREVER!!!• Jesus gathered His disciples one day
and said:– Each time you gather together in love
and prayer you should share my Body and my Blood.
Our Lord Jesus said:• He took bread and gave thanks, broke
it, and gave it to them to eat saying, “This is my Body.”
• Then He took a cup and mixed in it wine and water and gave them to drink and told them, “This is My Blood” given for the forgiveness of sins.
• He ordered them to do that until He comes back to take us to heaven.
What is Communion?• Communion = we are united with
God through the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ that we receive from the priest.
What is the Impossible to the Lord?• Jesus told them many things that were
thought to be impossible but did happen:– The Resurrection from the dead.– Creating the eyes for a man who was born
without eyes.– The Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.
• The truth is:– After Abona prays, they are no longer bread and
wine, they are truly His Body and His Blood. – This is a mystery to us but we have faith that it is
TRUE!
The Liturgy = heaven and earth together !!
• Prayers in the Liturgy are meant to lift you up to heaven to give you a chance to talk with God, the angels, the apostles, and all the saints.
• They are with us, and we are with them around the Body and Blood of Jesus !!
Hear the Lord Speak• Abona says thanksgiving prayer and
raises the incense of our prayers to God.• We hear the saints in the readings of the
Epistles ! • We hear the Lord himself in the reading
of the Gospel !• Then Abona continues prayers and
consecrates the bread and wine to give to the people.
For God loves me and is giving me His living Body and Blood so that I stay with HIM!
“ I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say. The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? “ (1 Corinthians 10: 15-16)
“For we though many are one bread and one body for we all partake of the one bread” (1 Corinthians 10: 17)
