COLOSSUSPremium Liner Hanger System

COLOSSUS
The COLOSSUS* premium rotational liner hanger system was designed to meet such challenges. Each component is engineered to optimize the load, pressure, and bypass ratings of the complete system and can be pushed, pulled, and rotated as required to work the string to total depth.
Hydraulically set and released, this system is designed for deepwater and deep onshore wells, high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) environments, and horizontal, extended-reach, tight, and deviated wellbores requiring high-hanging and drill-down capabilities.
Deep wells create special challenges for liner hanger systems. In highly deviated
boreholes, for example, the liner hanger must withstand high-
torque and high-tensile loads.Using the COLOSSUS liner hanger system can reduce casing costs, improve cement jobs, minimize formation damage, and maximize well control during the comple-tion operation.

FROM CONCEPT TO COMPLETION
The COLOSSUS liner hanger system has been developed through research, testing, and reli-able field performance.
Design. During the new product design phase, engineers study the effects of pressure and temperature on liner hanger system compo-nents, including rapid analysis of the forces, stresses, and movement in the wellbore, and numerical screening techniques such as finite-element analysis. These programs are applicable to both simple and complex well conditions and help optimize product design
and reduce product development cycle time. The results and feedback required to design a successful well completion provide precise design specifications for manufacturing.
Manufacturing. Schlumberger uses the latest computer numerical control machine tool technologies to precisely manufacture liner hanger components according to design specifications.
Qualification testing. Temperature, pressure, and load prerelease tests are conducted on system components at engineering test facilities in Houston to meet both industry-
and client-specific requirements. Testing parameters are visually monitored, fully documented, and compliant with ISO 14310 V3 and V0 industry standards.
Liner hanger components are tested individu-ally for hanging and load capacity, pressure and temperature conditions, tensile and torsional capabilities, and for torque, burst, and collapse resistance. The entire liner hanger system is function tested to ensure that each component will work in conjunction with the others when deployed in the well.
Protect the integrity of your completion.

SYSTEM APPLICATIONS■ Deepwater and deep onshore wells ■ High-pressure, high-temperature
environments■ Horizontal, extended-reach, tight, and
deviated wellbores■ Wells requiring drilldown capability
■ Enhances well stability and safety by – allowing long, heavy liners to rotate
during cementing– preventing upward movement of the liner– reducing weight on the wellhead
SYSTEM BENEFITS■ Minimizes completion time by
– deploying drilldown liner system– rotating the liner when running in hole– circulating at high rates– tripping at a high speed
■ Reduces well costs by – reducing the amount of casing required to
complete the well– deploying hanger in drilldown applications

The high-capacity rotating liner hanger (HCHR) is designed for deep, challenging wells and HPHT environments. Its slip-cone design distributes axial and radial loading through the hanger and delivers increased hanging capacity over cone-type hangers.
The pocketed slips facilitate drilldown operations. A high- performance bearing allows the long, heavy liners to rotate to improve cement integrity.
FEATURES
■ Proprietary slip-cone design that delivers lower and more uniform stresses in casing and mandrel
■ Hydraulic setting mechanism■ Slip-cone design that eliminates
cone collapse ■ Slip design and hardness com-
patibility with high-grade casing■ Anti-preset mechanism that aids
in completion of challenging wells■ High-performance bearing that
allows rotation of heavy liners during cementing operations
■ Standard premium connections
The PV weight-set liner top packer is ISO 14310 V3 and V0 qualified and rated to a differ-ential pressure of 10,000 psi [68.94 MPa] in most sizes.
During running and cementing operations, a cementing packoff maintains a seal between the work string and the liner.
The packer includes an integral retrievable cementing bushing profile, which is designed to elim inate the need for a separate adapter in the liner hanger assembly.
FEATURES
■ Antiswab element design■ Compatibility with mechanical-
or hydraulic-release setting tools■ High torque capacity to rotate
long liners■ Integral mandrel and setting
adapter design■ Tested to 10,000 psi [68.94 MPa]
and 400 degF [204.4 degC]
High-Capacity Rotating Hanger PV Liner Top Packer Collet Running Tool Right-Hand-Release Running Tool
The collet running tool (CRT) is a hydraulic-release running tool that requires no rotation to be released from the liner, thereby making it suitable for applications with high-inclination wells. The clutch and premium tool joint connections permit high-torque rotating and drilldown throughout the liner system.
In cases in which a rotational liner hanger is deployed, this tool enables the liner to be rotated after the liner hanger is set. A backup mechanical-release mechanism ensures the tool’s release from the liner.
FEATURES
■ Special clutch design that transmits high torque to liner
■ Variable shear-pressure settings
■ Optional standing valve profile in bottom sub for contingency release
The right-hand-release running tool (RRT) is a mechanical- or hydromechanical-release tool designed for systems that require high torque to enable the liner to be drilled during the operation.
In cases in which a rotational liner hanger is deployed, this running tool enables the liner to be rotated after the liner hanger is set. It can be configured into a hydraulic- or mechanical-release tool. The tensile and torque ratings make it suitable for challenging liner hanger applications.
FEATURES
■ Conversion kit option for mechanical or hydraulic release
■ Hydraulic lock feature that reduces risk of premature liner release
■ Right-hand running-thread–type release
■ Standing-valve profile to facilitate release if ball seats are washed out

Operations SupportMatching the best-performing liner hanger system with a particular well’s parameters requires a deep understanding of the well- bore environment and its potential challenges. A dedicated team of Schlumberger engineers works with you to understand these chal-lenges and recommend the appropriate liner hanger system for the operation. Their engineering knowledge and expertise, our innovative tool designs, and our simulation software help streamline liner hanger de-ployment, optimize the operation, minimize risks, and reduce costs.
This selection-feedback cycle is based on a three-phase process of design, execution, and evaluation.
Design. Schlumberger completion engineers help you select the optimum liner hanger equipment based on your specific well requirements and parameters, including depth, liner length, wellbore deviation, and
pressures and temperatures. They use simulation software to create torque and drag models and surge and swab models to ensure that buckling and failure of tools are avoided and that operations can be com-pleted correctly the first time—as planned and on budget.
Execution. Sophisticated software is put in place at the rig site to record key well parameters. Engineers monitor the liner hanger operation, record key parameters, and provide expertise onsite for optimal running speeds.
Evaluation. Engineers view the actual well parameter data and run additional simulations to review the details of the operation. The results enable them to provide a postjob analy-sis and evaluate the performance of the liner hanger system. All the information is stored in a secure database for future reference.
