From Our Board President

Dear Members,

Welcome (and welcome back!) to all of our new members. Our membership drive, which included reinstatement opportunities for former members, was a great success. I hope you all enjoy the many amenities offered by our Club.

Many members and guest enjoyed the Annual Saturday Breakfast with the

Bunny/Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Sunday Buffet. Thank you for your participation!

Please take advantage of fun and exciting events over the next few months

including the Member-Member Tournament and opening of our Pool. The Member-Member Tournament provides great golf, and you will notice changes on #18. Looks awesome! All the work from our amazing Grounds Crew has our course ready-to-play for this event with a fun Saturday night social for everyone. Please make plans today to participate in this Club tradition.

As you may already know our Executive Chef, Eric Nooe, is leaving to pursue new opportunities. We wish Eric good luck and appreciate all he did for CCC. The board is in the process or interviewing a replacement.

Your Board of Directors is working hard to make good decisions for our members and our club. If you have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate sharing with a board member or our staff.

Thank you for all your support and continued contribution to the success of our Club.

See you at the club,

Dan Outlaw President, Board of Directors

It’s great to see the weather warming up and the sunshine! We have 4 new members so far this month: 1 Sr, 2 Jr, 1 Regular: James & Denise Reagan Adam & Shea Johnson Ben & Brittany Woosley David Nichols Please be sure to welcome them if you see them at CCC. We are currently in the process of getting the pool ready for the season. Dee Hodgin will be our Pool Manager this year with Nebraska Hunneycutt as her Assistant. Friday, May 24th will host our Opening Pool Party. The pool will open at 6:00pm-10pm, with a cookout at the pool, games, and this year, Go Time Gaming Video Game Truck will be on site from 6:30 pm till 8:30 pm. Saturday, May 25th the pool opens at 11am with a Poolside Cookout from 12pm till 2pm, and closes at 8pm. Sunday the pool opens at 11 am until 8 pm. Monday, Memorial Day, the pool will open at 11am and we host a cookout from 12 until 2pm. DJ, Steve Carter will be playing all your favorites from 12-4pm. The pool will close at 7pm. We have many events planned for your enjoyment throughout the season. Movie night at the pool, bi-weekly game nights with prizes. It should be a really good season. Membership participation on the dining side was not as active as normal in April. Wednesday night activities have declined especially. I have heard from three people that changing to a buffet on Wednesday night is not appreciated, and that the membership loves the 3 selection Blue Plate Special dishes. Rest assured, the Blue Plate Specials will return to their original version, never to be turned into a buffet again. Some of the decline can be attributed to Spring Break at the schools in the area and families heading to the beach, or on vacation for the week. On that note, our Speakeasy event had minimal attendance, but those who came had a great time. Anitra Spencer, was fabulous and we will have her back another day. Breakfast with the Bunny and Easter Sunday Lunch had good turnouts. If you had photos taken with the Easter Bunny, your pictures are in the office and available for pick up. Our Mother’s Day Buffet will be held May 12th 11:30 until 2:00. CGA 4-ball tournament will be May 14th, Spring Member/Member is May 18th – 19th with the Calcutta on Thursday, May 16th. CCC will have a magician in the house for entertainment, Bryan Saint who was seen on Penn & Teller’s “Fool Us” TV show. This will be open to the membership, so mark your calendar for 5/18/19. He fooled them. Loretta Walter Clubhouse Manager

CCC Book Club Meeting

Thursday, May 9th 10:30am

Please join us for book club on Thursday, April 11th at 10:30am. New members are welcome to join at any time. Plan to stay for lunch

after the meeting!

For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens. Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Karen Russell, Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

I have noticed an increase in our golfers with their shirts untucked so I would just like to remind everyone according to our bylaws, the dress golf attire requires everyone to wear their shirts tucked in and this must be a shirt with a collar on it as well. Thank you for your cooperation. Golfers with our grass coming out of dormancy it is more crucial when playing to make sure we refill our divots with sand so that when the grass fills in it is a nice smooth playing surface for everyone. If you like to walk when you golf, you can bring a bottle like a Gatorade bottle with you to the course and we will be more than glad to fill it with sand for you. It is hard to believe that in less than three weeks from now our spring member-member will be here and we have worked really hard on trying to create a tournament that will leave you excited about playing in our next upcoming event. We will only have room for thirty teams. We are already more than half way full so please stop by or call the golf shop to get signed up before it fills up. It is going to be a great weekend. Please see our flyer in the newsletter or throughout the clubhouse for more details on the event. Also, if for some reason you are unable to play in the golf tournament, we will offer for $69.00 a couple entry into the din-ner and the professional magician show performed by Bryan Saint, winner of the Penn and Teller TV show. There will be limited spaces for this event as well so please call and reserve your seat. This will be a magical show that will leave you wanting more.

It’s hard to believe May is already here. The golf course is starting to wake up from its winter slumber and it appears we escaped the winter relatively unscathed. There will always be a few areas slower to fill in than others, but compared to last year we have had an extremely smooth transition. We will be doing our fertilizer bulk spread later in May and this will really get the grass going when combined with the warmer temperatures and adequate moisture.

The greens have transitioned well out of the winter, and they have started to take off with the growth. Thus, we have begun our verticutting/grooming and topdressing

routine. This will be a weekly cultural practice that is necessary with the aggressive

growth habit of the Champion bermudagrass. The verticutting or grooming helps to thin out the canopy while removing old plant material and leading to a more upright growth habit. It also helps the sand to find its way into the turf canopy. Topdressing helps to smooth and firm the surfaces while also diluting the thatch layer. Excessive build up of thatch can lead to all kinds of problems including the inability of nutrients/ fungicides to get into the soil, poor water infiltration, scalping from mowers, and spongy surfaces.

The new fescue beds on #18 are starting to come in, so please try and stay out of these

areas as much as possible as they continue to fill in. We did have some of our straw matting wash out in one of the big rain events and we lost some of that seed, but we have re-seeded and those areas should start to come in soon.

As the weather heats up and the golf course becomes more crowded, please do your part to ensure the golf course stays in the best shape possible for the group behind you; remember to always fill your divots, repair ball marks, rake bunkers, and obey all cart rules.
