Parent Survey 2016

The use of opinion data to monitor school performance

is a very important step towards making our school the

best it can possibly be. Annual and anonymous opinion

surveys for staff, students and parents are conducted

and the information gained is used to drive school

improvements and shape the future direction of the

College. Over the next week it is the parents’ turn to

tell us what they think. Randomly selected families

should have received a parent opinion survey in the

mail at the start of the week and we ask that these

families please take the time to complete the survey

and return the completed survey to the General Office

at school by Friday 29 July. In anticipation, I thank

you for your time and considered responses. Please

note all students returning the survey to the General

Office will receive a $5 canteen voucher.

French Competition

Congratulations to all our students who participated in

the recent Berthe Mouchette French Poetry

Competition. We had 11 finalists from the Year 7&8

levels and they participated in the follow up competition

last Sunday with the support of French teacher Bibi

Peerbux. Students were required to recite their poem

individually again but this time in front of two assessors

at the Alliance Française de Melbourne. Results are still

to be released. I would like to thank Bibi Peerbux for

providing this opportunity for our students.

Over the past few weeks the Year 7 cohort has been privileged to participate in a variety of activities including African drumming, crepe day and the finals of the Berthe Mouchette poetry competition.

All three provided a unique experience to immerse ourselves in a range of cultures.

African Drumming

The African drumming workshop was organised for the Year 7 students to celebrate cultural diversity as well as to raise cultural knowledge and awareness about Francophone countries.

The African drumming was an enjoyable experience even for those without rhythmical talent.

We created layered rhythms employing traditional percussion instrumentals whilst learning of the harsh lifestyle of the poor people in Ghana. The entire year level avidly played their allocated instrumentals. The atmosphere was electric.

Crepe Day

After paying $4.00 per serving, the entire school was able to enjoy a delicious crepe with their choice of topping and complimentary fruit. The meandering queue spoke for itself.

The crepe stall was a huge success!

Berthe Mouchette

After participating in the preliminary rounds, five lucky finalists from Year 7 travelled to Alliance Francaise in St.Kilda to compete in the final rounds. We recited the poem ‘La Fourmi’ by Robert Desnos. Fingers crossed our efforts see us through.

A bientot.

We are very proud of our students’ achievements this year. The results came out a week ago and the standard has been raised at a higher level in 2016 with 11 finalists from the Year 7 and 8 SEAL classes. From the figures sent by Kellee Lewis, the competition Coordinator at the Alliance Française de Melbourne, 1010 participants were selected as finalists from different participating schools across Victoria in the Years 3-10 Poetry recital category, compared to only 920 last year.

Please note that the Year 9 -12 Levels also

participate in a written test competition. The

Years 9-10 levels completed their written tests

last term, whereas the Years 11-12 students

will be doing their Oral in August. Both results

for the Years 11-12 Levels will be announced

before the end of Term 3.
