Year 5/6

Here we are in week 4 and the term is whizzing by at a

furious pace. Only 21 more days until year 5-6 head off down

the highway to Ballarat. The class is abuzz discussing the

itinerary, sleeping arrangements and most importantly. “Will

we be able to use the pool Mr Watts?”

We have been trying to „get a feel‟ for the living conditions

way back in 1854 and I‟m sure when our students are

standing on the actual ground, the whole process will become

a lot more meaningful.

The Goldfields Diaries are starting to look very impressive

and it is encouraging to see so many students thinking of

ways to add authenticity to the „look and feel „of their

booklets.

If you need to contact me regarding any concerns or

provisions for your child please don‟t hesitate to call me at

the school. The best times for a guaranteed contact are

Monday afternoons between 12.00pm and 4.00pm or Friday

mornings between 8.30am and 11.00am. Alternatively, you

can leave a message at the front office and I can make contact

with you.

And finally, a big thanks to Chris White and Julie Bellato

who will be accompanying as on our journey.

In all, it should be an exciting, educational and memorable

experience.

Stage 3 Poems

What if the whales never called again?

I might never jump into the deep blue sea

What if the seagulls flew into the horizon?

I could fly away too.

What if the sand washed away?

I would wash away with it.

Would you jump before me?

Shakyra Stevenson

What if I was a pen?

I might run out of ink

What if I get thrown in the bin?

I could be a little loner with some ink left in me.

What if someone found me?

I would still work because I‟d have an owner.

Will I be happy again?

Maddie Rainbird

What if I was taken?

I might never make it out

What if no one noticed?

I could always hope.

What if I could escape?

I would try till I can‟t see them.

How long would it take to find me?

Maths

In PDHPE year 3 have been extremely busy. In PD we have been learning about smoking, the

dangers of smoking and the effect smoking has on peoples bodies. In PE we joined with year 4. Group One played

tee ball with Miss Flack and group two played volleyball with

Mr Dean.

In literacy we started reading the BFG (Big Friendly Giant)! We

practiced writing narratives. Our class narrative was about a dog that dived into a volcano to get a potion

that would destroy all the cats on earth.

Year 3 did Chinese dragon drawing in art. We watched a video about drawing Chinese dragons. As we watched the video Miss Flack would pause

the video so we could draw our dragons with pencils.

We also made origami cranes and hearts. Miss Flack read the story

‘The Peace Crane’. Origami cranes originated in China.

Year 3 have been exploring fractions in maths. We learnt how to add two

fractions together. We also investigat-ed millilitres and litres in maths. We estimated how many millilitres and litres were in buckets, bottles and

different sized containers.

Science

In science we made water bottle rockets with Mr Dean. We half filled an empty soft drink bottle

with water and pumped air into it using a bike pump. When the pres-sure built up inside the hose on the bottom of the bottle it shot off and the rocket flew up into the sky. The

rockets went really high!
