Dear School Community
As week 4 comes to an end it is time to praise the amazing efforts of all our students in Grades 3 and
5 for completing their NAPLAN tests this week While these tests focus upon Literacy and Numeracy
skills we must remember that these tests do not define any child (or school for that matter) We must
remind our children that there is much more to them than the outcomes of these tests Our children
are creative are kind and caring they show empathy and understanding they are responsible and
respectful citizens in the making and so many more layers to them than Literacy and Numeracy tests
such as NAPLAN Please remind your children of these things that we admire in them
SCHOOL UNIFORM
Please be reminded that we do have a School Uniform Policy that outlines the requirements of our
school uniform It would be appreciated if all parents revisit this policy which can be found on our
school website Unfortunately we have many children who are beginning to come to school in
variations that are not part of our policy In particular items that are not in school colours or items of
clothing that are branded Once again I wish to remind parents that as the weather becomes colder
and wetter we require students to be wearing their school uniform windcheaters or jackets before
wearing hoodies and jackets which are not items of our uniform
SCHOOL DISCO
Having just spent the evening attending the Student Disco I wish to commend all students who
attended on their excellent behaviour It was wonderful to see so many children dancing and having
fun with their peers I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Louise and her team of
wonderful volunteers from the Coburg West School Community (CWSC) Group for their efforts in
planning and delivering this fund raising event It was a smoothly run and well-organised evening
Another big thank you goes to the teachers who also took the time out of their Friday evening to
assist with supervision and join in the fun with their students There were many smiles all round
DEMOCRACY SAUSAGE SIZZLE
Another big thank you goes out to the parent volunteers who will be sizzling sausages tomorrow as
our school becomes a polling booth for the 2019 Federal Election Once again as part of the CWSC
parent volunteers have jumped on board to fund raise for our school I thank them in advance for their
efforts and dedication After all the children benefit from these efforts
MARY POPPINS IS COMING
As many of you are well aware this year CWPS will be presenting a junior version of the musical Mary
Poppins While Ms Meta and parent helper Luke have completed auditions all children have now
begun rehearsals As you will find later in this newsletter Ms Meta and Luke will provide regular
updates through to our performances in November
Wishing everyone a wonderful fortnight ahead
Kind regards M Colagrande Principal

Mary Poppins Update
Well done again to the large number of students who auditioned for our whole school production of Mary Poppins Junior Luke and I were blown away with the confidence courage and talent we saw from each student who got up and sang for us We have now picked lead roles for both Casts A and B and we have started lunchtime rehearsals with these students Parents of students who have received a lead role will have received an email from me regarding lunchtime rehearsal scheduling so please refer to this for important information I can confirm the dates for the performances will occur in late November and there will be a total of 6 shows where each cast will perform 3 times over a period of two weeks It will certainly be a massive event and an incredible experience for the school as a whole A reminder that if you are interested in helping out closer to the event and on the performance nights you can contact the office Another reminder that if students are more interested in being a backstage crew member than actually being in the performances they can let me know and I will start collating a list All other students will be in the performances either as a lead role featured performer or in ensemble items Luke and I have started teaching class ensemble items during studentsrsquo Performing Arts class time and the students are having a lot of fun with it which is pleasing to see We are looking forward to getting stuck into rehearsals both in and outside of the classroom From Ms Meta __________________________________________________________________________________
