Learning how to believe in yourself will open up endless possibilities in your life.

At times you may find this difficult to do. The truth is that we’ve been conditioned

throughout our lives to doubt ourselves. We must retrain ourselves to get rid of our

fears and self-doubt in order to build self-esteem and self-confidence. Everything

you have in your life is a result of your belief in yourself and the belief that it’s

possible. Believe that you can do it regardless of what anyone says or where you

are in life. In order to believe in yourself, you first have to believe that what you

want is possible. This is the importance of always holding a positive expectation

that what you want is going to happen. It’s simply a choice and a discipline of the

mind. Think about exactly what your life would look like if you had already achieved

your dream. Always act in a way that is consistent with where you want to go. Take

action towards your goals. Do not let fear stop you, nothing happens in life until

you take action. You always have a choice. By acting “as if,” you will become the

kind of person who is capable of creating the kind of success you want. This will

trigger your subconscious mind to find creative ways to achieve your goals. You will

start noticing anything that will help you succeed. Best of all, you will start acting

on these opportunities, because you will have the confidence that your efforts will

    yield great results.

“Life is a series of changes occasionally

    interrupted by stability.”

“The mob has been a tremendous blessing and

resource for me in launching my business. Not only

have I made many new friends and have gotten to

know a whole group of people that are making

things happen, but I’ve also gained several new

clients. I have also met the people I now rent office

space from for my new massage studio!

    I love the mob!”

    -Shawna Abbott

Life is a series of changes occasionally interrupted by stability. I use that quote a lot.

It was something that came to me one day during a leadership workshop. I think it

describes the essence of being a leader and a change agent.

Our lives can change in an instant. All of us can point to a moment in our lives when

things changed significantly. Perhaps it was an event, personally or historically. It

could have been an “aha! moment,” a time when we learned something new or were

exposed to a new idea that changed our perspective. Maybe we wanted better results

and changed what we were doing. How we respond to change determines our future.

We make best choices based upon the information we have and we act. Sometimes

we succeed, sometimes we fail. Thomas Edison failed over ten thousand times before

he finally created the light bulb. When asked about his failures he replied, “I have not

failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Embrace change. Let go of the

illusion of perfection. Today’s failure can lead to tomorrow’s success. Focus on the

two things we can control, our attitude and our actions. Enjoy each moment and

    move forward with life.

When I graduated college years ago our commencement speaker, Dr. Curt Strube,

told us that “those of you who will be the most successful in your lives will be the

ones who are the most flexible.” Over the years, I’ve learned the true wisdom in

    those words.

    Foster Adopt Connect

Foster Adopt Connect specializes in solving problems for kids and families involved in and affected

by the child welfare system. Foster Adopt Connects mission is "to provide foster and adoptive

children a stable, loving and nurturing family environment by support and advocacy for abused

and neglected children and the families caring for them." Our services help families gain the

resources they need to be effective, loving caregivers, and help foster children find their Forever

Home. Like parents everywhere, our focus is on providing the best care for our children and helping

them to accomplish their dreams and goals. We believe the best place for a child to begin healing

from abuse and neglect is in the home of a dedicated, loving caregiver. Children in foster care and

those adopted from foster care are among the most fragile children in our society. Many of these

children have experienced significant trauma, often over the course of many years, before they

enter the child welfare system. In the SWMO region, there are nearly 3000 kids in Foster Care,

nearly 600 in Greene County alone. The child welfare system, comprising 1,300 foster parents in this

region, are straining to address the number of children needing foster placement. There simply are

not enough homes, services and state revenue to address the need. These circumstances help explain

the significant need for the work that we do on behalf of the abused and neglected children in Greene

County and throughout the Southwest region. As a private, not-for-profit agency with a goal of

creating innovative solutions and bringing together community resources to address the gaps in

service and support that the state system cannot meet, FosterAdopt Connect is uniquely positioned

to offer solutions for foster and adoptive families in the community. Each year we help train foster

parents, advocate for foster and adopted kids, and provide services that help ease the transitions

and problems faced by these kids and the families that care for them.

The following is a brief overview of FosterAdopt Connects programs.

Extreme Recruitment – Extreme Recruitment targets foster youth who are considered hard to

place. This program uses intensive search and concurrent planning, executed by recruiter-private

detective teams, and quickly creates permanency options for each youth served where previously no

options existed. This innovative program has served 22 children in its first two years.

30 Days to Family – This program is an aggressive, front-end family finding service that seeks to

divert children from the path that leads to multiple placements by placing them with family

members rather than an unfamiliar foster family. This program began taking cases in the spring of

2014, and has since served 59 children, the majority of which were part of a larger sibling group.

Behavioral Interventionist Program (BI) – This program works to keep families together by

providing in-home behavioral supervision, crisis de-escalation and regulation skill coaching for

foster and adopted children facing mental and behavioral health challenges. The BI program is

keeping children out of residential facilities and with their families, reducing the trauma children

experience and allowing them to heal.

Community Connections Youth Project (CCYP) – This program connects older youth to community

based resource providers (healthcare, employment assistance, education, etc.). The goal of this

program is to ease the transition into adulthood for foster youth who are “aging-out” of the system

without significant family or other supportive adult relationships. CCYP is unique in that staff are

former foster youth themselves and have “beaten the odds” by completing college degree. This

perspective and experience allows staff to successfully provide peer-to-peer mentorship and guidance.

Training – This service provides foster, kinship and adoptive parents with initial and ongoing

learning opportunities that qualify them for service as licensed and approved foster, kinship and

adoptive parents for the state of Missouri.

Advocacy – Skilled advocacy assistance in navigating systems and solving problems is provided free

of charge to families experiencing the challenges of raising foster and adopted children.

Relative/Kinship Parent Licensing – The licensing department provides assessment, licensing and

supports to current and prospective caregivers through our recruitment programs so that they may

provide safe and loving homes to children needing temporary care or the permanence of a forever

    family.

Food Pantry and Clothing Closet – The Food Pantry and Clothing Closet (Sammy’s Window) offers

direct material support and assistance, at no cost, to more than 200 abused and neglected children

    from our community each month.

    How can you help?

We can accept monetary donations. Donations of items like new undies, socks, gently used clothing

and hygiene items. We can provide donation barrels if anyone wants to collect. We need volunteers

and we are in the middle of a Capital Campaign to buy and renovate our building and provide more

    resources for this community.

    Thank you,

    Danielle Conti

    Executive Director at FosterAdopt Connect

“When I first arrived in Springfield in 2010 I had

already achieved directorship in Mary Kay. As with

any sales marketing there is an ebb and flow. I was

in an ebb at that time. Joining the MOB allowed

me to meet professional men and women to build

referral relationships with in a relatively short

time frame. Not only have I made wonderful

Friendships that will last a lifetime, I have rebuilt

my business to the flowing stages again. Go MOB!! “
