Clive School Board of Trustees wishes to advise that Mrs Maree Ringrose our Office Administrator has announced her retirement at the end of 2018. Mrs Ringrose has worked diligently for the children and school for the past 12 years. A farewell will be held for Maree on the 10th December at 1:15. Where we will acknowledge the dedicated service she has given and the close relationships Maree has made with staff children and parents over the years. You are cordially invited to attend and share with the staff and children in fare welling Maree. Also departing is Mrs Jenny Jamieson our school librarian. Jenny leaves to take up her hobby of ‘wood working’ as a more full time activity. Jenny helped set up the new library and ensured that this wonderful resource is always fully stocked with modern and appropriate children books. We will miss both valued staff members.
Our roll continues to grow and for the first time Clive has 269 students enrolled. Our teaching staffing is fully organised for 2019. Mrs Sacha Garett has been appointed as a permanent member of the teaching staff and will be with us again in 2019. The Board received many high quality applications for the role of Office Administrator and is currently in the process of appointing a suitable person. This will be announced at the end of the year at the prize giving. With the newly appointed applicant starting in January 2019.

Children turning five in 2019?
If have any friends or neighbours who
have a child turning 5 next year and they are
considering enrolling at Clive School we
would love to hear from them.
We are now taking enrolments for
children who are turning 5 years of age
during Term One and Term Two in 2019.
Please ask them to call into the office
to collect an enrolment package and make an
appointment to meet our Principal, Brian
Eales.
It would be great if they could enrol
early, so before school visits can be
organised. Visits are usually three to four
weeks before starting school. Children
starting early next year will have visits at the
end of this year.
Some information for next year class
placement
For parents who have children moving from year 2 into year 3 in 2019 there is an information meeting on Tuesday 27th November at 3pm, just to talk about what is different and how does it all work. In the staffroom. A must if you have questions and concerns.
At year Three, Four, Five and Six, children spend two years with the ‘same teacher’. This is to achieve two aims;
the teacher gets to know the child very well and there is no or very little disruption to the continuity of learning which often occurs as they change classes;
and that child can be a great role model for the new children entering the class as they already know the likely routines, expectations and classroom systems.
This approach has proved to be very successful. We implemented this in 2017 for both years three and year four and as a result this will continue in 2019.
Thank you for the great year. With your support and that of many other families our school has continued to grow and excel. At the end of this school year both staff and students are well due for a substantial break.
It is at this time of the year when people experience in some form and to some degree both stress and anxiety on a range of different aspects of ‘life at school’. Depending on how we deal with these issues as adults makes a huge difference in providing optimum conditions for great learning outcomes for all children and especially your children.
Placement of your child in a class
grouping is carried out by teaching staff at the end of the year.
Many hours are spent by teachers considering the set of factors that will most likely impact positively on your child for the subsequent year.
We do this in teams and as a whole staff based on the following;
learning needs, social maturation and development, relationships with all children,
relationships with specific children that may inhibit positive growth and development, optimum class numbers and groupings based on all of the above.
We do not consider parental requests for a change as they are generally based on; ‘a parental impression either positive or negative of a particular staff member’, ‘my child only relates to a particular type of teacher’, ‘a dislike of another child in that a class’ ‘a dislike of another family in that a class’, ‘my friends child is in that class and they have no friends in this class’
Fantastic effort at Athletics tino pai
e rawa nga tamariki ma, excellent children
what a great day ... Determination to the
front, children with a great attitude and
strong competition with results that either
pleased or disappointed, depending on the
placement when the line was reached.
Winning is important, as is the
determination to take part, to contribute to
an event, to push harder and to understand
our own limits and those ‘what if ‘possibilities.
Children learn great things from a
‘race’. They develop self-awareness and
eventually they will better prepare for those
‘races’ even more. They develop an
awareness that others are trying just like
them to cross the line first.
Children, with your help, can realise
that in winning so too comes defeat. Defeat
over fears and self-doubt and then in losing
so comes victory. Victory in having had a go,
giving it your all and aiming high. Being
‘graceful’ in winning and ‘magnanimous’ in
defeat are great but they are concepts that
we do try to develop in children. Many adults
struggle with that same concept.
There were many outstanding
individuals who overcame their own internal
battles and won the race within.
There are many top athletes at Clive
school who can proudly put their heads high
and say ‘I won’ the race but I also needed
you in the race, to race me and the others to
the finish line.
And we don’t always win ! But that is
what life is about…taking part in it.
This is what builds resilience in
children that they take through into
adulthood it is often called character
I love this …..
If you...
Cut for me, draw for me,
paint for me, do for me...
All I learn, is that you
can do better than me.
So…
talk to me, listen to me,
explain to me and join me
But please, do not do it for me !
Let me fall
For then I learn how to get back up !
Summer
Summer, what a great time when
you are young to really get involved in
outside activities and enjoy your age.
When combined with holidays, summer is
just magic... ‘family’ friends and fun’ go
hand in hand.
Summer, when the bounty of the
‘Bay’, all that wonderful fruit is plentiful
and cool drinks with ice are really nice.
Summer when swimming becomes
reallypleasurable and family time is able
to occur more easily.
Summer when we all need to slap on
that sun screen, slip on that shirt and
avoid over exposure to the vicious effects of
the suns UV rays.
Hats are a must and need be worn in term
1 and 4 at Clive School. These are not
caps from the cupboard… but school
bucket hats
Swimming has started at school each class
teacher will inform parents as to the days
times for swimming.( Not as yet for Juniors
faarrr toooo coolllddd)
Swimming is not an optional activity, it is just
as important as reading.
The school year speeds to
and end and we thank the many
people who have helped at school
with a lot of events and activities.
Without people helping we would
struggle to meet the many needs
of children right across the school.
You are never taken for
granted and we thank you for
your support.
