ClayNet™ClayNet™

New high-speed clay control breakthrough for swelling and sloughing clays

Key Features Stability across the full pH range Dual process clay control Optimized inhibitive chemistry High ionic strength and charge density

Benefits Superior inhibition of clay swelling with capillary suction times lower by one-third or more

Controls sloughing and fines migration High performance across a high pH range Temperature has no significant effect on performance Reduces GPT dosages by half or more

Addresses fines migration Limits iron migration Compatible with anionic, non-ionic and cationic systems

Improves reservoir maintenance Higher quality cuttings

Capillary Suction Time (CST) cut 20% or more – and at half the dosages.Unmatched pH stability. Manages both swelling and sloughing clays.

Unique Properties Tunable for long-term and short-term clay control needs Soluble in a range of make-up waters Two-step control process; electrochemical and then encapsulation

Chem Rock announces a major discovery in clay control. New ClayNet delivers unmatched performance and economy. With drainage times of just 11-13 seconds and dosages of just 0.25 - 1 gpt, ClayNet helps you make every dollar count in today’s unconventional reservoir operations.

ClayNet provides optimized inhibition of both swelling and sloughing clays for superior protection. And extraordinary stability across a broad pH range with virtually no negative effects on performance.

ClayNet is a dual-process, sustainable clay control agent that manages the complex mineral assemblages in shale formations. It is the first in its class with

the versatility to inhibit swelling and/or migration of smectites, illites (micas) and chlorites regardless of geologic origin. Exclusive dual process clay control electrochemically interacts with the clay at its most reactive sites and then immobilizes the colloids and particles by encapsulation with the base chemistry.

ClayNet is a safe, non-hazardous polymeric- based agent providing long-term management of “reactive” swelling clays and sloughing clays. It provides superior fines migration control.

Polymeric-based ClayNet dramatically reduces drainage times compared to industry-standard choline chloride-based agents.

Tolerant of pH values ranging from pH 4 to pH 12 Compatible with fluid additives Environmentally responsible (chloride free)

Compatible in both anionic and cationic FR Systems

Secondary function to control migration of iron-bearing clay minerals

Remarkably fast CST at a full range of pH levels

The complexity of clay mineral assemblages in unconventional reservoirs puts a premium on managing swelling and fines migration as much as possible. Not satisfied with the status quo in clay control, Chem Rock worked to develop this new breed of clay control agent.

Competitive products in the industry typically average 19 to 38 seconds for typical shale reservoirs. ClayNet results clearly indicate CST or drainage times are 20% faster than the competition. And never have you seen such stable performance at various pH levels.

Using a Capillary Suction Timer, the CST test was done with tap water and test fluid prepared with ClayNet at a 0.5 treat rate. 1 g of -230 mesh-size shale cuttings was added in each fluid and mixed with ground core samples. Control was ClayNet at its normal pH: 7.3.

Capillary Suction Test for ClayNet at High Temperatures – 0.5 gpt

Temperature has almost zero effect on suction time. Two samples were heated to 150°F and 180°F. Suction time at 150°F increased by only 1/10th of a second.

Capillary Suction Test With and Without Breaker – 1 gpt

Almost zero effect on suction time using a breaker.ClayNet delivers unmatched value so vital for today’s operating environment. No other clay control agent offers so many performance advantages.
