Proposed Giving to Other Worthy Causes

• Funding Issues

– San Antonio NPG (Returning Heroes Home) raised the $5.8 mill to build the 12,500 sq ft bldg and grounds which opened in Dec 2008; donated it to the Army

– Furniture, kitchen appliances and computers in the learning center all obtained through donations

– NPG still working on $2.1 mill (have about half) to complete adjoining park and walkways

– Army Support Activity (ASA) pays for basic staff (director, asst director); most of the rest of the staff are volunteers

Proposed Giving to Other Worthy Causes

• Funding Issues (Cont)

– Post covers bldg operation and maintenance costs – bare bones

– Programs have some basic ASA funding, but donations cover most of the need

– Small donations used to provide: gift cards, disposable cameras, baked goods, candy, snacks, pens, pencils, music, DVD’s, diapers, formula, personal hygiene products for warriors and family
