Civilian Instructor Matthew Baker, Instructor 137 Ashbury RCD Army Cadets CI Baker has served more than 18 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. He enrolled in the CAF in May 1996 in Georgetown, Ontario. After a short career in the Lorne Scots, an Army Reserve unit, he transferred into the Regular Force in April 1999 as a Communicator Research operator (Signals). During his proud career, CI Baker served at the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics (CFSCE, x2), National Defense Headquarters (NDHQ), 21 Electronic Warfare Regiment, and Canadian Forces Station Leitrim (x3). In 2002 he deployed aboard HMCS St. Johns to Bahrain with Op Apollo. Upon his retirement in 2014, CI Baker went back to school at Algonquin College in Ottawa, where he is currently enrolled in the cabinet making & furniture technician program. When CI Baker joined the CAF, he had a lot of great mentors and role models who helped mold him into the person that he is today. CI Baker hopes that by passing on the knowledge taught to him onto the next generation – our Cadets – he could become a positive role model for today's youth, who can in turn pass it on to future generations.
