On the weekend of November 6th-8th, brave New Jersey District Circle K members ventured into the tortured woods of Camp Mason. It was frightening and ghoulish, with Black Cats, Green Zombies and White Mummies around every corner! Watch out for the scariest zombie of them all………ROCKY TRIFARI the Green District Governor (and he actually did turn green by the end)!!! Insight, a weekend-long leadership and team building event, was a huge success with a great turnout! There we were able to improve our communication and trust skills, while being able to bond with others members from different colleges across the state! Our theme was Halloween, which was a great taken that the movie Halloween 3 was filmed just down the road from the campsite! On the first night, we had a pizza party, which was then followed by a Haunted Walk through the woods and a big bonfire, where we were able to bond with our fellow Circle K’ers. Everyone seemed to love the Haunted Walk, except for the few who got scared out of their wits. On Saturday, we started off the day with some delicious breakfast made by the lovely Camp Mason directors and workers. We then hit the ropes course where we had to use verbal and body language to communicate to our members and guide them through each course. We also had to trust each other during a few of the courses and use our strength to carry our teammates through each obstacle. After talking to the Camp Mason directors, they were surprised with our teams, saying that instead of bringing each other down and not working as one, we built each other up with encouraging words. Using our communication skill, we were able to work together to get through the obstacles and make our way back to camp! After the ropes course, the District Board Members were separated from each of their teams and told to go hide with their activities. It was time for the Scavenger Hunt. During the Scavenger Hunt, each team had to look around campus for each of the board members and play a mind game with them. This game would have to be figured out and the quickest team would get the most points. Everyone did so well, and using their brains together, they were able to find the quickest way to solve each puzzle! In the afternoon, each of the members took part in a service opportunity hosted by Camp Mason. There were different projects that were going on, but I decided to paint picnic tables for when the camp opens in the spring. It was a lot of fun painting the tables despite getting green paint on my favorite jeans (told you Rocky’s green would come get me). The evening was a blast where everyone dressed up and went to a Halloween Dance Party! There were also some fun arts and crafts to do if you weren’t into the dancing thing. It was great and I loved seeing everyone show their moves!

On the Last day, we had an ending ceremony where we watch a video, made by Sam our District Secretary and Jayde our Technology Chair, recapping our adventures of Insight. It was great seeing the smiling faces of all of the people and am happy that I went, meeting new friends and getting closer to others. The last event that took place was “Slime a Board Member,” where members would bid to win a chance to pour slime on their favorite board member. Sadly, I was not able to stay for this part because I caught an awful sickness, but I did hear that Rocky took the slime for me, getting the whole bowl of slime dumped on him (this is where he actually got green haha!). Insight was a great success and many members had great things to say about it. Members that have been taking part in the festivities for years say that this one was the “best one yet!” I cannot wait for years to come and see what great ideas the next board member will think of!

Governor’s Corner

Hello New Jersey District!

The big event that took place this month was INSIGHT, our annual weekend-long leadership

and team-building event! Attendees were split into small teams and assigned a spooky Halloween-

themed character as the team’s name. (Shout out to my fellow Green Zombies!) Over the course of

the weekend, everyone participated in a ropes course, various host club activities, and a variety of

unique service projects. Camp Mason YMCA's facilities made it possible for members to enjoy

S'mores over a cozy bonfire and a peaceful night of stargazing. Many members got to see their first

shooting star!

One of our ongoing goals throughout every INSIGHT is to minimize our food waste. For the

first time ever, NJ Circle K had ZERO food waste after one of our meals, successfully earning us our

very first Golden Spoon Award, which will now be hung on their Gold Spoon Award Wall. I think

members had the most fun with our all-new, haunted walk or perhaps, the scavenger hunt, which

had teams work together in a race to complete all of the activities set forth by

each District Board Member. They had to do these activities

as quickly as possible to earn points for the end Insight Award.

On Sunday, attendees got a chance to bid to slime the

board members through a live auction. As governor, I had the entire

remaining bowl of slime dumped over me (yay!). Though the

slime was nearly impossible to wash out, I must admit it was

a lot of fun. I can't wait to see my new friends again soon!

Stay awesome, New Jersey!

Sincerely,

Governor Rocky

Stockton Circle K Visits Ronald McDonald House in Camden

By Taylor McKay, Stockton Circle K Editor On Saturday, October 24th, Stockton Circle K’er’s gathered together to spend a night at the Ronald McDonald House in Camden. Our members dressed up in Halloween costumes to spread the Halloween spirit. We had a variety of characters such as Anna from Frozen, a bumblebee, Wonder Woman, and many more. When we arrived, we set up a few different activity stations. One station had face painting and supplies to make friendship bracelets. Another station had a variety of different board games, including Uno and Sorry. The last station had a variety of craft supplies such as construction paper, crayons, colored pencils, scissors, and glue used to make Halloween themed crafts like spider hats and Frankenstein cutouts. Our members were spread out at different stations to help the children with their activities. Towards the end of the night, some of our members made Frankenstein cutouts to donate to the house to use as door decorations. We even brought the children some treats, such as “witches hands” treats bags, which were a glove stuffed with candy and popcorn. We also delivered gift bags that were made during a service project sponsored by Circle K at Stockton’ Day of Service on September 12. Overall, we all enjoyed our trip to the Ronald McDonald house and are looking forward to our next trip. Not only did we enjoy ourselves, but I also think that he children were all happy to see us there!
