THANKSGIVING DAY MASS AT ST. ANN’S
As in past years, there will be a Thanksgiving Day morning mass with music at 9 am at St. Ann’s Church.
This is in addition to the regular 7:30 am mass, which is also livestreamed.
On Thanksgiving Day the masses at St. Paul’s will be 6:30 am & 8:30 am.
(Right) Our photo album of young men and women who received the Sacrament of Confirma on con nues on pages 8 and 9.
As liturgical me draws to an end, the Church celebrates the
FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING.
Pope Pius XI ins tuted this feast in 1925 with his encyclical Quas Primas (“In the first”) to respond to growing secularism and hos lity against the Church. Today reminds us that while governments and ideologies come and go, Christ reigns as King forever. During the early twen eth century, in Mexico, Russia, and in many parts of Europe, atheis c regimes threat-ened not just the Catholic Church and its faithful but civiliza on itself. Pope Pius XI’s encyclical gave Catho-lics hope and — while governments around them crumbled — the assurance that Christ the King shall reign forever. . . . Quas Primas con nues to ring true today. In recent years, aggressive secularist campaigns have sought to marginalize the Church and other religious ins tu ons.
When our na on is beset by civil unrest, racial tension, and a pandemic, we do well to turn to Our Lord, who reigns over every people and na on.

Are You “SURE” You’re a Registered Parishioner? Many times we meet people at church who attend mass, take part in events, or perhaps even have received their sacraments here. We’re so very glad you’re with us and part of our community. But that alone does not make you a parishioner. To be a member of the parish you have to REGISTER. Registering is very easy. You can register online at spasaparish.org or at the parish office. It only takes a few minutes. Everyone over the age of 18 is encouraged to register. Even if you’re an adult who received all your sacraments here as a child and still attend mass here, you need to register. Why register? First and foremost, it’s very important to register so we can serve your needs when, for example, you need a sponsor certification letter for Baptism or Confirmation. Also, to receive an acknowledgment of your donations for your income tax filing, you need to be registered so we have an official record of your giving over the year. So, please join us officially and register with the parish so we can meet all your needs now and in the future!

Mass Intentions When we face the death of someone, even a person who is not Catholic, to have a Mass offered for the repose of his or her soul and to offer our prayers are more beneficial and com-forting than any sympathy card or flower arrangement. To have a Mass offered for a birthday, anniversary, or special need is appropriate, beneficial, and appreciated. You can find out what masses are availa-ble and schedule them online at SPASAMASS.ORG or call the office, 845-268-4464.

T he Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, commonly referred to as the Feast of Christ the King or Christ the King Sunday, is a rela vely recent addi on to the Western liturgical calendar, having been ins tuted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI for the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church. In 1970 its Roman Rite observance was moved to the final Sunday of the liturgical year. As we can see, it was ins tuted only less than 100 years ago. In the a ermath of the First World War and in the midst of the rise of Communism in Russia, uncertainty and fear grew and ques on was s ll more urgent: Whom can we trust? The feast was a response to the coming of seculariza on, atheism, and communism. While the world was increasingly telling Chris ans that they must compartmentalize their religion and give their highest allegiance to the government, Pope Pius XI wrote regarding the feast:
“If to Christ our Lord is given all power in heaven and on earth; if all men, purchased by his precious blood, are by a new right subjected to his dominion; if this power embraces all men, it must be clear that not one of our facul es is exempt from his empire. He must reign in our minds, which should assent with perfect submission and firm belief to revealed truths and to the doctrines of Christ. He must reign in our wills, which should obey the laws and precepts of God. He must reign in our hearts, which should spurn natural desires and love God above all things, and cleave to him alone. (Quas Primas, 33)”.
From Father Roman
The Pantokrator (Greek: Παντοκράτωρ) is a specific depiction of Christ. It suggests Christ as a mild but stern, all-powerful judge of humanity. Pantokrator or Pantocrator (pronounced pan tok’ crater), usually translated as "Almighty" or "all-powerful," is derived from one of many names of God in Judaism. Largely an Eastern Orthodox or Eastern Catholic theological conception, it is less common under that name in Western (Roman) Catholicism and is largely unknown to most Protestants. In the West the equivalent image in art is known as Christ in Majesty, which developed a rather different iconography.
