Letters of Timothy
Have you ever had the experience of walking up to a door expec ng to push only to find out that you needed to pull? Have you ever had the experience of walking down a staircase but having to consciously take a step at a me simply because the steps were at different heights, which broke up your natural flow of going down? It's a simple thing really. And we don't give it much thought because the modern buildings in which we live are standardized. So we just intui vely know we have to pull the door when entering from the outside of the office building. Once inside, we know by the design to push the door to enter the office or if it's recessed we will need to pull it open. If you ever lived in an older country, city or town prior to standardiza on then you have probably experienced a lower or higher level of frustra on depending on your personality. Archdiocesan parishes are undergoing a standardiza on process at a variety of levels. One of those levels is in the area of computer programs like our accoun ng and census so ware. This can be a wonderful thing if you have a ques on, then you can simply call up the parish next to yours to get the answer or clarifica on. It is even more helpful when a priest for example, leaves their parish for a new assignment. Rather than having to relearn a whole new series of programs they are up and ready to go. St. Patrick's is now in the process of standardizing some of its so ware programs. Before the actual transference to the new so ware takes place we are in the process of cleaning up our data and database. This will make the transfer of informa on easier as well as being more useful. To be sure our data is accurate and up-to-date, we will ask for your help to verify the informa on we have is correct. This will most likely take the form of a mailing, e-mail and phone, or combina on of each. We are tenta vely scheduled to convert to the new so ware program in October. I want to thank you advance for your pa ence and understanding as we address these challenges. Walking with you in faith,
Father Tim

Notes from Pope Francis on the crisis at the US/Mexico border, July 14, 2014 In an a empt to share informa on on the unfolding crisis on the US/Mexico border, we will con nue to look for trusted voices on the crisis. We have included a couple of sec ons from a le er that Pope Francis wrote to the Mexican Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“I repeat what I have affirmed in this year’s Message for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees: A change of a tude towards migrants and refugees is needed on the part of everyone, moving away from a tudes of defensiveness and fear, indifference and marginaliza on – all typical of a throwaway culture – towards a tudes based on a culture of encounter, the only culture capable of building a be er, more just and fraternal world.
I would also like to draw a en on to the tens of thousands of children who migrate alone, unaccompanied, to escape poverty and violence: This is a category of migrants from Central America and Mexico itself who cross the border with the United States under extreme condi ons and in pursuit of a hope that in most cases turns out to be vain. They are increasing day by day.
This humanitarian emergency requires, as a first urgent measure, these children be welcomed and protected. These measures, however, will not be sufficient, unless they are accompanied by policies that inform people about the dangers of such a journey and, above all, that promote development in their countries of origin. Finally, this challenge demands the a en on of the en re interna onal community so that new forms of legal and secure migra on may be adopted.”
