    September 24, 2017

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Teresa Church, I am very happy to announce that on Thursday, October 5, our Saint Teresa School community is being honored with a visit from our Archbishop, His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan. Each Fall, our Cardinal chooses one school to visit. By his presence he spotlights the gift of Catholic education, and reminds us that Catholic schools are a worthy, life-changing ministry for every parish and parishioner to support. His Eminence will begin with a Mass in church at 10am for our students and faculty. You, our generous and loyal parishioners - probably like me, mindful and grateful for your own years of Catholic education - are cordially invited to attend. His Eminence will preach, and after Mass he will visit classrooms and talk with students. I know that the Cardinal will enjoy that a lot - and he will be encouraged by what he sees. Our school has been excelling in test scores, innovative education styles, and good practices to enhance our Catholic identity. St. Teresa’s creative and welcoming Principal is Mrs. Anna Simione. Parents, grandparents and guardians are always welcome to visit our school and see if this is the best place for their children. This September we have more than 250 students in eleven levels: PK-3, Pre-K, Kindergarten, grades 1 to 8. Our school building is clean and bright, and thanks to every-one who has or will make a pledge or gift to our RENEW+REBUILD Capital Campaign, we will be able to bring the advantage and comfort of air-conditioning into our classrooms and gymnasium/auditorium by this time next year. Coincidentally, our RENEW+REBUILD 2016-2019 capital campaign enters a new stage this week as we strive to serve our people by improving our buildings. Today in the vestibule of our church you can see a full-size drawing of the beautiful permanent memorial we have designed. It features a wood carving of our patron Saint Teresa, above and surrounded by hundreds of recognition name plates that will honor and thank our parish supporters. Inside our bulletin today you can see this image and a renewed invitation to be part of this historic memorial. Parishioners who have already contributed will be receiving their name recognition request form in the mail. Proof that our generosity is not limited to our own needs or benefit is the large contribution that you gave last Sunday in our second collection for people in the Houston area who were badly affected by Hurricane Harvey. The second collection amounted to $3,725. As promised, that has been sent to Cardinal Dolan's office for him to forward to people in the affected states. Responding to the misfortune of people hit by Hurricane Irma, we will share our re-sources this Sunday too, by sending the second collection from today's Masses to help suffering people in Florida. In the near future we will also try to help the people in Mexico and Puerto Rico who have lost so much this week. Please welcome today a young man from Saint Joseph Seminary: Mr. Joseph Hadzovic. Joe has just begun his four years of theological studies and formation for priesthood at our seminary in Yonkers, usually referred to as Dunwoodie. He will have a few moments to talk with us at Mass about the seminary and the annual collection for its support, which is scheduled for next Sunday. Please keep him and all our future priests and deacons in your prayers. Please also pray for our neighbor and friend, Father Ambrose Madu, who will be installed next Sunday as the Pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Victory Boulevard near Silver Lake Park, at a 3pm Mass. We truly need an increase of vocations to the priesthood, so that there will always be priests to offer Mass and provide sacra-ments for the people of God in the parishes of the Archdiocese of New York. Here is a prayer for priests and for vocations, drawn from words in the Roman Missal that we use at the altar. Perhaps you will pray it this week: O God, who wills to provide shepherds for your people, pour out in your Church a spirit of piety and fortitude. Raise up worthy ministers to serve at your altars. Help your priests to be effective in action, gentle in ministry, and constant in prayer. May the ordained stewards of your mysteries grow in number and always persevere in your love. And strengthened with the Bread of the heavenly table, may the seeds that you sow with great abundance come to maturity in the hearts of your faithful, so that many young people may make it their choice in life to serve you by serving their brothers and sisters. We ask for all this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Faithfully yours in Jesus Christ, who is our Great High Priest, Msgr. William Belford
