Stewardship Treasure - $11,359.00

NEXT SUNDAY’S SCRIPTURE READINGS: Genesis 18:1-10a; Colossians 1:24-28; Luke 10:38-42.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE (FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME)—Children learn by watching us. Do they see you helping others like the Good Samaritan, or do they see you avoiding others like the Levite in today’s gospel? Worry more about what your children see in YOUR LIFE rather than what they see on TV.

MAGNIFICAT PITTSBURGH—Ladies, come to the Magnificat Pittsburgh prayer breakfast on Saturday, August 6, from 9:00 a.m.-noon at the Doubletree by Hilton, Cranberry Township. Maria Boylan will give a testimony of finding God at an early age, the struggles against the world’s temptations, an unspeakable tragedy and the difficult road to forgiveness and living an everyday life that included uprooting family and leaving friends due to work relocations. She will tell you about many personal touches from a loving God that helped her along her journey. Cost for the breakfast is $23. To register by Friday, July 29, please call Kay at 724-772-6749 or Pam at 412-461-8906.

PRE_CANA CLASSES—St. Basil Parish offers diocesan approved Pre-Cana classes for couples preparing for marriage. The next program is scheduled for Friday evening, September 16 from 6:00- 9:30 p.m. at St Albert the Great and resumes again on Saturday, September 17 from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The donation is $60 per couple. Please call the parish office at 412-882-9763 to register or for more information.

WE ARE LIVING IN A TIME OF CHANGE—But what will this change look like? On Mission for The Church Alive!, our diocesan-wide planning initiative, includes 21 criteria for creating draft models for new kinds of ministry in our parishes, health care facilities, prisons and jails. To learn more, you are invited to attend one of this week’s Summer Sessions, 7:00-8:30 p.m.: Monday, July 11 at St. Alphonsus Parish in McDonald; Tuesday, July 12 at St. Joseph the Worker in New Castle with Bishop David Zubik; Wednesday, July 13 at St. Joseph in Cabot; or Thursday, July 14 at Holy Martyrs in Tarentum. You can also visit www.OnMissionChurchAlive.org/About. MARRIAGE MOMENTS—”Be your partner’s cheerleader, not his/her teaching, supervisor or critic. This creates a partnership rather than a hierarchy.” (Trudy Costa, “How To Create a Satisfying, Lasting Marriage”) ~©2016 by Susan Vogt, www.SusanVogt.net.

PARENTING POINTERS—”...love your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27)—It’s a familiar verse; perhaps so familiar we take it for granted. How do I love myself? (Do I take care of my health, my mind?...) Help your children identify their strengths today. Not just general strengths. Be specific. Later you can go on to apply this to your neighbors. ~©2016 by Susan Vogt, www.SusanVogt.net.

As we began this hot month of July, you may have noticed how much better the air conditioning is working in the Church. Installed in May, the new system needed to be fine-tuned during the month of June in order to get the a/c working efficiently and to maximum effect. It’s been cooling our Church comfortably for a few weeks now, including for the three June weddings. This was the fourth of the five capital projects we planned in Our Campaign for the Church Alive! and now we move onto the fifth and final major improvement. This month, we will begin to install all new windows in our school and CCD building. The old ones are the

original windows from the 1950’s, about sixty years old. This project will be the most costly of the five we have undertaken, but because of your continued pledged generosity, we have sufficient funds to complete this badly needed improvement. These windows will not only keep our classrooms cooler in the hot weather and warmer in the cold weather, but we will also realize a significant savings in our monthly utility bills. The bronze color of the framing, matching the new doors, wil l also improve the overall appearance of the building with the dark frames providing a sharp contrast to the yellow brick. We will complete phase two of this window project next summer, when we redo the windows at the entrance of Conroy Hall and replace the wall of windows along the Kane Boulevard side of the science laboratory and library. With the successful completion of the new roofs on the Bower Hill buildings, the new lighting in the Church, the new emergency alarm in school, and the new air conditioning, and, now, the new windows in the school and CCD building, we may be among the first of the 200 parishes in the Diocese to complete their targeted capital improvement projects for Our Campaign for the Church Alive! You may recall that we secured pledges of about $2.4 million a few years ago to fund these needed improvements. That was about $900,000 more than the $1.5 million that the Diocese encouraged us to raise. I’m hoping when we finish next summer, we’ll even have leftover funds to make additional improvements to our buildings and grounds. Rev. Richard A. Infante Pastor

two days of brotherhood this Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday,

July 11-12. There will be Mass, Adoration and dynamic speakers. The
