Dear Parishioners, This weekend, our parish is celebrating the Patronal Feast Day of SS. Cosmas and Damian. The parish was named after the twin Saints and martyrs from Syria in the second century. The territory of Twinsburg was originally part of the St. Barnabas Parish. In 1963, our parish was officially established by Bishop Hoban with Fr. Koehl as the first pastor. Fr. Koehl was replaced by Fr. Wagner. Under Fr. Wagner, the parish had its first Parochial Vicar, Fr. Burkley. Fr. Hyclack was ordained in 1969, the first son of our parish to become a priest. Fr. Burkely was replaced by Fr. Severt, who became the administrator of the parish for a brief time after Fr. Wagner retired. Fr. Friedel became the third pastor, and longest named pastor of the parish, having served for nearly 24 years before his retirement. Under Fr. Friedel, three priests served as Parochial Vicar, Fr. Chlebo, Fr. Trask, and Fr. Beatty. Deacon Belsito was ordained in 1979 as the first son of the parish to become a deacon. The parish school was opened for twelve years, beginning in 1993. Construction on the new church was initiated in 2001 and completed in 2002. In 2002, Fr. John Singler was named pastor of SS. Cosmas and Damian Parish. Deacon Ed Chernick was ordained in 2005 as the most recent son of the parish to become a deacon. Fr. John Pfeifer was ordained in 2007, the most recent son of the parish to become a priest. In 2012, Fr. Foster became the pastor of our parish. In 2015, Fr. Padavick served as the Parish Administrator until July 1st when I, Fr. Stalla, the current pastor of the parish, began to serve as the fifth pastor of SS. Cosmas and Damian Parish. May God continue to bless our parish as we carry the banner of Truth and Love into the future. God bless you all for being part of such a great history!

On behalf of the Pfeifer family, I would like to thank the parish for your love and support for John during his two year battle. Whatever you might have done for both of us: A phone call, a prayer, a card, dinner or a brief visit. Even just coming up to him letting him know you were there for him. It all meant so

much to John and to me. You are all in my prayers and I am sure John is smiling down and praying for

the church that meant so much to him. -Diane Pfeifer

We’ll take another look at Eve our first mother, and at Mary, our Blessed Mother. We’ll walk with Ruth

The GOOD News from Thea Bowman Center, a virtual benefit Oct 7, 8, and 9 This past year, assistance from SS Cosmas and Damian Church has allowed Thea Bowman Center to

celebrate light in a world filled with darkness. The pandemic, a perfect storm of grief, loneliness, fear and hunger, hit Mt Pleasant residents hard. Thanks to our many “candles” of support, we continued to light the

way and even strengthened our connections with the southeast Cleveland community we have been privileged to serve for so many years. Please help us to keep it going by adding your candle to our light

with a donation to our benefit. Oct 7, 8, and 9, you can hear what’s been happening from program participants, appreciate the broad impact of our services, and learn what is in store moving forward.

(These are short videos) Hear the videos each day at theabowmancenter.org/ or on our parish website

Register your email address at theabowmancenter.org/register to receive each day’s message A second collection will be taken at all Masses on October 9th and Oct 10th in support of the Thea

Bowman benefit. The parish will match the funds collected up to a limit of $5000. The funds matched from the parish will come from a fund donated by Fr. Friedel.

October is the Month of the Rosary Our Lady of Fatima said to the children: “Pray the rosary every day to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war”. Mary’s role is to bring us to Jesus—what a better way to Honor Him, than through

his Mother, who asks us to say the Rosary for the problems of our world and our own intentions! In honor of Mary we have set a goal of 1000 Rosaries to be said during the month of October! We will be keeping track of the number of times the rosary is prayed during October. Keep track of the number of times you

pray the Rosary. There will be three ways you can report your number. You can report as

often as you’d like. • There will be a log in the church by Mary’s statue • Call or text message for Carol at 216.269.7665 or Pam at 330.840.8467 • If you do Adoration use the log in the chapel.

There will be free Rosary CDs in the gathering area. Pray the rosary while you drive.

Help us to reach our goal of 1000 Rosaries in the Month of October.

SAVE THE DATE for the 14th annual Rosary Rally on Twinsburg Square at noon October 16th.

Gospel Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48 At that time, John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw some-one driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.” Jesus re-plied, “Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us. Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward. “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut if off. It is better for you to enter into life crippled than with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. Better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into Gehenna, where ‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.’” The Gospel of the Lord—Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

The Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (At the words that follow, up to and including, ‘and became man’, all bow.) And by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen

First Reading Numbers 11:25-29 The Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. Tak-ing some of the spirit that was on Moses, the Lord bestowed it on the seventy elders; and as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied. Now two men, one named Eldad and the other Medad, were not in the gathering but had been left in the camp. They too had been on the list, but had not gone out to the tent; yet the spirit came to rest on them also, and they prophesied in the camp. So, when a young man quickly told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp,” Joshua, son of Nun, who from his youth had been Moses’ aide, said, “Moses, my lord, stop them.” But Moses answered him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets! Would that the Lord might bestow his spirit on them all!”

Gloria Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of

good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great

glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world,

have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the

Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy

Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Responsorial Psalm The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

The law of the Lord is perfect refreshing the soul: the decree of the Lord is trustworthy,

giving wisdom to the simple.—Refrain

The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true,

all of them just.—Refrain

Though your servant is careful of them, very diligent in keeping them, yet who can detect failings?

Cleanse me from my unknown faults! - Refrain

From wanton sin especially, restrain your servant; let it not rule over me.

Then shall I be blameless and innocent of serious sin.—Refrain

Second Reading James 5:1-6 Come now, you rich, weep and wail over your impending miseries. Your wealth has rotted away, your clothes have become moth-eaten, your gold and silver have corroded, and that corrosion will be a testimony against you; it will devour your flesh like a fire. You have stored up treasure for the last days. Behold, the wages you withheld from the workers who harvested your fields are crying aloud; and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and pleasure; you have fattened your hearts for the day of slaughter. You have condemned; you have murdered the righteous one; he offers you no re-sistance.
