Below is a summary chart of PEERS results of high school youth from Christian homes in four types of school settings.

A common question from this chart is, “What is a Biblical Worldview school?” We classify a Christian school as such where we generally find the following three practices:

1- Curriculum Selection

Schools that are careful to select curriculum resources which promote the theme of “Biblical worldview” and teach students how to reason from the scriptures to a correct understanding of the subject matter. This is a consideration given for all subjects, in all grade levels. At times, these school will develop their own curriculum along with curriculum guides to ensure that subjects are not presented from a secular point of view.

2- Teacher Training

Teachers, at all grade levels, are provided with In-Service training on both biblical philosophies of education and biblical worldview understanding. Nehemiah Institute is an authorized C.E.U. provider for In-Service materials.

3- Parent Training

Worldview schools will regularly provide instructional material to their parent body on the theme of biblical worldview. This is to ensure that concepts and methodologies conducted in the classroom are being reinforced in the homes. Some schools encourage the parents to also use the PEERS Test.

Testimonies

It is the teacher who provides the worldview guidance for students, even more than the curriculum.

For that reason, I give the PEERS test to new teachers to help them see where their own presuppositions may need rethinking. Then I follow up in our continuing education classes with studies based on the items they most frequently missed.  The position papers provided by the Nehemiah Institute have been invaluable as study guides for our teachers in evaluating what the Bible has to say concerning politics, economics, and other academic disciplines.

We have found the PEERS test most useful in helping to train parents.

We began using the PEERS test in 1989 and it has been a wonderful tool for discerning the intellectual worldview embraced by church elders, students, teachers and board members. Regardless of how well we may impart a Biblical worldview to students from trained teachers, the key to seeing true transformation in our land is the equipping of parents to consistently live out their Biblical faith in the home. If the home is not transformed, we have little hope of seeing churches and the surrounding culture impacted with a Biblical worldview.

Founding Principal of The New Testament Christian School

The PEERS Test is an integral part of our efforts to teach worldviews to our students.

It is an excellent way to demonstrate why worldviews is an important course of study. The students are motivated by their scores at the beginning of the year to apply themselves to study to “renew their minds” in the areas where they have not scored well, and are encouraged when their scores improve dramatically by the end of the year. I cannot recommend the PEERS test highly enough.

I am so thankful that the Nehemiah Institute has developed the PEERS Test that both assesses and instructs in worldview.

Developing a biblical worldview in our students is a key directive of our school mission statement.  It is also consistently at the top of the list when our parents are surveyed as to why they have their children in our school.   The PEERS Test is given in grade nine as a pre-test and again in grade 12 as a post test to help us know if we are accomplishing our stated mission.  If we are serious about developing a biblical worldview, we have to be intentional in our pursuit of it.
