RCIA Information

To: Cursillistas Who Want to Participate in Future Cursillo Weekends

Leaders school has begun for the Richland, Kennewick and surrounding area. Sessions will be held in our Youth Center each third Saturday of the month, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and running no later than 11:00 a.m. In these sessions, Cursillistas, especially those who want to assist in the Rollo room, will learn about the updated Cursillo Manual and Pilgrims Guide, which have signifi-cant changes that will affect how Cursillo Weekends are to be conducted in the future. All Cursillistas, new and old (mature), need to become informed about the changes that will bring our Yakima Diocese Cursillo Movement in harmony with all the Cursillo movements worldwide. Additionally, we will have to become educat-ed on new procedures for conducting a Weekend.

Please pray about continuing or renewing your Cursillo ministry and attending the upcoming information ses-sions. Bolster your ACTION/EVANGELIZATION leg of your tripod by your attendance at the sessions!

Year of Mercy Reflection

Today's readings all remind us of the transience of life on earth, and the importance of seeking what is be-yond: the treasures of heaven. Through God's mercy and love, the joys of heaven can be experienced while we are still here on earth if, in faith, we focus on "what is above." St. John Paul II expressed his thoughts on this message in his general audience of July 21, 1999, saying:

"The depiction of heaven as the transcendent dwelling-place of the living God is joined with that of the place to which believers, through grace, can also ascend… Thus heaven becomes an image of life in God. In this sense Jesus speaks of a "reward in heaven" and urges people to "lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven" (M 5:12, 6:20; cf. 19:21).

…Since believers are loved in a special way by the Fa-ther, they are raised with Christ and made citizens of heaven… The fatherhood of God, who is rich in mercy, is experienced by creatures through the love of God's cru-cified and risen Son, who sits in heaven on the right hand of the Father as Lord.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church sums up the Church's teaching on this truth: 'By his death and Res-urrection, Jesus Christ has 'opened' heaven to us...' This… can be anticipated in some way today in sacra-mental life, whose centre is the Eucharist... as we pass through this world we are called to seek "the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God" (Col 3:1)…"

Keep your eyes on Christ, hidden in the Eucharist, lis-tening always for His voice in your heart, seeking to do His will, and the treasures of eternity will be yours.

The Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel p 16 (11/15)

Wearing the scapular calls us to a commitment to a way of life with special characteristics:

To imitate the “praying Virgin” who “kept the word of God in her heart” (Lk 2:19,51) :

setting aside some time to meet God in prayer,

meditating on the mysteries of salvation,

taking part in faith in the liturgy of the Church, especially the Eucharist,

reciting every day some liturgical hour or some psalms or the holy rosary.

To see to it that living in the presence of the living God, every aspect of life becomes prayer and that prayer becomes life, at the same time remembering the obligations and work of their state of life.

For additional information about the Lay Carmelites, contact Rebecca Moak at 509-460-1608.

Spiritual Practices

Ignatian Spirituality

Some people think feelings cause problems for discern-ment. In reality, they are part of the process. Emotions contain valuable information. Learning to interpret our emotions is one of the best ways to discern God’s will for our choices in life. Ignatian Spirituality teaches that in any important decision, we should contemplate each alternative, then imagine what it would be like if we’ve chosen a particular option. Then, we pay attention to how we feel about living out that option. Our feelings help point to the best alternative, to God’s will for us in the situation. The Exercises help us ask the question: ‘What is God asking of me?’ and help us discover that answers are found by listening to our emotions.

The Spiritual Exercises will start a new session on September 10, in the Christ the King Youth Center Game Room. We invite you to join us. To register, email or call for an application or download one from our Facebook page at SEELTC or call Ellen at 628-8626. For Spanish call Cesar at 942-1050. Email [email protected].
