My tenure at St. James School has come to a close
after 2 remarkable years. It has truly been an honour
to serve such a vibrant school community. Our
school has grown academically and artistically. It
has been a busy two years with many
accomplishments and successes that are the result of
the efforts of staff, students and parents. All of our
concerts, Camp Olympia trips, fundraisers, sport
teams, W5H, cardboard races, and masses are to be
celebrated and cherished. An added bonus was
having professional artists come to our school to
work with the students, receiving the Music Counts
Grant and getting an entire classroom set of brand
new instruments and finally receiving the very
prestigious Indigo Grant that will help stock our
library shelves over the next three years. St. James
School has accomplished so much with the
commitment of so many people who have dedicated
so much of their time for the students.
The success of our Catholic school would not be possible without all our important stakeholders. Fr. Ignacio has
served us well over the years and we thank him for his weekly visits, his monthly masses and preparing our students
for the sacraments.
Our dear CSPC (Catholic School Parent Council) parents, what would we do without you? You have been so
involved in improving the learning experiences of all our children. Your commitment to providing us with Little
Red Theatre, scientists in the school, technology purchases, bussing and more is greatly appreciated. You have given
endless amounts of time to enrich the lives of our children. A special thank you to all our 2016-2017 CSPC
members; Mrs. Lisa Cellucci and Mrs. Debbie Hammond (Co-Chairs), Mrs. Trish Aurelio (Treasurer) and Mrs.
Lourdes Sousa and Mrs. Jeanette Tucci (Secretaries). Please consider joining our school council in September as the
Catholic School Council really makes a difference for our school and parents.
A special goodbye to our Grade 8 students as they soon close the door on their elementary education and open a new
and exciting door as they go off to high school in the fall. Special thanks to our entire intermediate staff for
supporting them this year; Mr. Angelosante, Mr. Barber, Ms. Demonte-Bahr, Mrs. Bodnar and Mr. Lambert.
I wish to recognize our entire staff for their dedicated work on behalf of all our students. They put children first and
are always supportive of their wellbeing. You give so much of your time in and out of your own classrooms. You
make every student feel welcome. I leave the students in excellent hands as they prepare for the future.
Finally, our wonderful students; we’ve bonded through daily announcements, gospel readings, recess duty, concerts,
and my walkabouts through the classes to see your work, choir treats and recess detentions. You will still see me
around, so I’m not gone for good. I will be stopping by to see how everyone is doing. I wish everyone a safe and
happy summer with family and friends. Summer is a time for renewal and relaxation. I will truly miss all of you and
may God keep you in the palm of His hand.
Year End Message from the Director of Education and Chair of the Board
As we reach the end of the school year, we take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to all of you for your continued commitment to, and involvement in, Catholic education. Our students and staff are to be congratulated for the wide variety of achievements and celebrations that took place this past year. The numerous school anniversaries and the many awards and accolades for our students, staff and school communities recognizing community service, social justice initiatives, academic excellence, the arts and athletics demonstrate our commitment to Catholic Social Teaching and showcase the dedication of our staff to our students. The Year of the Parish was celebrated with a number of special events and activities, culminating with our Parish Family Day which highlighted the special connection our schools have with their parishes, pastors, and religious orders. Students creatively demonstrated this connection through the use of words, music, videos, and art. We are so grateful to the pastors, parishes and Archdiocese of Toronto for their dedication to our students, their families, and to Catholic education. As we conclude our Year of the Parish, we can reflect on the wonderful relationships that exist between our parishes and schools, and the commitment to continue our education in faith. At the administrative level, success was achieved with the announcement that TCDSB will achieve a balanced budget in 2017, eliminating a multi-million dollar deficit a full year ahead of schedule. To learn about this and other highlights from the 2016-2017 school year, you can watch the Director’s Voice Webcast at: http://archive.isiglobal.ca/vod/tcdsb/Board/Director/archive_Directors-Voice-2017-June.mp4.html We thank our parents, staff, students and Catholic stakeholders for their continued support of TCDSB’s ongoing commitment to student achievement and well-being. We look forward to the year ahead, as we begin the Year of the School. As you depart for some well-deserved time with your family and friends, we wish you a safe, happy and relaxing vacation. Thank you for being part of our TCDSB school community. Have a wonderful summer! Yours in Catholic Education, Angela Gauthier Angela Kennedy Director of Education Chair of the Board _____________________________________________________________________________________________

Gr. 8 Graduation 2017
Our Grade 8 graduation mass and ceremonies took place on June 23, 2017 at St. James
Parish. Mass was celebrated at 6:30 pm, graduation awards, speeches and diplomas were
at 7:30 pm and our refreshments took place in the church hall from 8:30 -9:15 pm. It was
just a perfect evening. Everything went smoothly and there are many people to thank for
making this event possible.
Fr. Ignacio, thank for the beautiful mass and homily for our grade 8 students and parents.
Knowing Christ and forming a relationship with our Lord is definitely the most important
thing our graduates can do for a fulfilling life. You have guided them well. The church
hall was just perfect for the refreshments.
Allison Hunwicks, thank you for being the pianist and thank you to Carlo Martinez for
being the cantor for our mass. It made such a difference.
Mrs. Krol, thank you for your patience and hard work with our Grade 8 graduates; getting
our reservations for the Mandarin, ordering the taxis and helping with our yearbook. The
cake from Loblaw’s was delicious. You were the driven task master behind the scenes
thinking about everything and making sure everyone came through.
Ms. Cellucci, where would we be without you? Thank you for all your help with the
fundraising, counting money, getting our hoodies, arranging the Mandarin luncheon and
taxis and picking up the awards. Your quiet patience got us all through this.
Ms. Cellucci, Ms. Aurelio and Ms. Krol, thank you for setting up the refreshments and
cleaning up. You saved the day by keeping a calm and reassuring presence amidst the
flurry and frenzy.
Ms. Figiel and Mr. Serianni thank you for helping to decorate the church basement.
Ms. McGregor (Malik’s mom) thank you for the balloon arch in the church basement. It
was really a beautiful sight to behold.
Mr. Angelosante thank you for your calmness in getting things done at the last minute.
You were very cordial and accommodating. Everything was covered. The projection
screen during mass was very effective. You were a great M.C. and we will all miss you.
Special guests and teachers who were present: Mr. Celebre, Ms. Pascucci, Ms. Bodnar,
Mr. Barber, Ms. Costanzo, and Ms. Demonte – Bahr. Thank you for taking the time to
see our graduates begin a new chapter in their lives.
It was a great evening. We couldn’t have done it without all of you!
