THE CHURCH

Christ Community Church (CCC) in Pinehurst, NC, is seeking an Executive Pastor. CCC is a thriving church located in a place known for world class golf, equestrian pursuits, and a strong military presence (Fort Bragg). As our well-regarded and highly respected Executive Pastor has recently been called to serve at another church, CCC is launching the search for our next operational leader.

This position will best fit a man whose leadership is collaborative, has loving humility properly rooted in God, one who will faithfully shepherd a large congregation that has grown quickly with people from diverse backgrounds in various stages of faith, and who will empower the giftedness and strengths of staff and lay leadership. Such a pastor will find a church with a sincere spiritual vibrancy.

CCC is known for fervent prayer, vibrant worship, expository preaching, compassionate outreach, and a strong sense of community. The faithful ones who lead the prayer ministry fill this critical ministry with passion. Additionally, the children’s and youth ministries are bursting at the seams, the church has a good reputation in the community, and there are many gifted and sincere mem-bers who call this church their home.

Christ Community Church adheres to, and fully supports the EFCA Statement of Faith. These are, we believe, indisputable tenets of God, and there is no room for debate on these points. The “Free” in the denomination’s title means that having affirmed these tenets, our body is an independent organization and free to govern itself with no interference from the EFCA.

In 2015, leadership developed and launched a 2020 Vision that focused on three specific areas:

• Passion for God: CCC will grow a community that is passionate for God and His purposes. We desire to grow a congregation of followers of Jesus who are growing in character, community, and kingdom impact. The culture in which we worship, pray, serve, and fellowship will reflect our hunger to know God and His will for our church.

• Care and Connections: As our church grows, we desire to stay connected to one another. We will NOT permit ourselves to be a large, impersonal church. We will care for people in spiritual, prayerful, emotional, and practical ways. Our Life Groups, counseling and prayer ministries, pastoral staff, and our environment will provide significant care and connection to our congregation.

• Outreach: Local outreach will be a combination of members living “intentionally on mission” with Jesus in our daily walk, saturated by prayer! Our ministries will be a demonstration of God’s heart for the widow, the downtrodden, and the oppressed, and will provide redemptive pathways out of systemic and generational dysfunction. The effectiveness of our regional outreach will depend upon our prayer and building trust relationships within the community.

Having successfully achieved the 2020 Vision, church leadership together with individual ministries are actively involved in a new Visioning Process that is on schedule to define and launch a 2025 Vision by year end 2020.

THE POSITION

OVERVIEW

The Executive Pastor is the operational leader of the church, serving as ministry partner with and reporting to the Senior Pastor. His primary essential duties and responsibilities are:

• Directional Leadership – ensures alignment of all activities of the church with the Mission and 5 year Vision• Administrative Oversight - administrates the complete operational side of the church• Chief of Staff - oversees a high-performing staff.

The Executive Pastor is the primary leadership partner of the Senior Pastor. When the Executive Pastor performs his duties efficiently and effectively, the Senior Pastor can focus completely on his role as spiritual leader and is freed up to spend the necessary time for preaching, teaching, and inspiring and communicating the church’s Mission and Vision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Directional Leadership Provide leadership to plan and lead staff, ministries, facility use, calendar, etc., so that the church accomplishes its Mission and Vision. Key word for directional leadership is alignment.

• Actively participate as a member of the Elder Board in the 5 year visioning process.• Lead the development of long-term objectives and annual goals for each Ministry to actively support and drive the church’s Mission and Vision.• Provide day-to-day leadership of the organization to achieve the mission of the church and navigate operational decisions. • Evaluate and adjust current ministries to elevate productivity, which may include developing new ministries that align with the vision and increases fruitfulness.• Establish and measure appropriate metrics in order to evaluate progress toward Vision achievement and the overall health of the church. • Monitor the pulse of the congregation and organization through research and evaluation. • Provide routine reporting to the Senior Pastor and Elder Board that charts the results and outcomes of ministry direction in alignment with church Governance Policies. • Serve as project manager for special projects and events.

Administrative OversightProvide the administrative leadership to oversee the healthy function of all aspects of the church’s legal, financial, facility, and organizational activities. Key word for business administration is systematic.

• Manage vital systems, practices, and policies of the church to effectively and efficiently support ministry productivity.

• Provide oversight and direction for the church’s financial management.• Oversight of campus development to ensure that facilities are in operational readiness.• Oversee the expansion, property purchases, design, and construction of future facilities.• Ensure the church’s technology systems are sufficient and able to perform current and future functions of ministry.• Communicate on administrative status with written and oral reports to Elders at the monthly meeting.• Provide office management and coordination of support staff, as well as human resource issues.• Oversee insurance and other benefits for staff.

Chief of StaffAbility to lead staff by directing, supporting, evaluating, and compensating a high performing leadership team. Key word for staff management is clarity.

• Responsible to define ministry expectations, goals, and reporting structures for the staff.• Provides leadership to prioritize staff additions, conduct the search and hiring of staff, as well as the necessary dismissal of staff in partnership with the Senior Pastor.• Mentor, develop, and coach staff. • Conduct formal annual reviews of performance of direct reports and make salary recommendations to the Senior Pastor and Elders for all staff. Provide ongoing informal performance feedback to the staff.• Coordinate and lead various staff meetings in partnership with the Senior Pastor. The Executive Pastor is prepared and able to direct the Ministry Staff meetings.

QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS

A successful Executive Pastor in this next season of ministry will need to have a specific set of qualifying characteristics: • Vital spiritual walk - without the Holy Spirit’s power the job will be too much for anybody. • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline. Master’s in Business Administration or Theology is preferred. Licensed by the EFCA is also preferred.• Three years of experience as an Executive Pastor (preferred) or on a senior leadership team and/or board within a medium to large church or within a comparably sized business. • An integrator who helps optimize existing processes more than a visionary builder who must create them.• Display visionary and strategic leadership in executing ministry responsibilities, including understanding how and when certain tasks should be delegated to others. • Administrative gifting and track record of success overseeing the work of the church and management functions. • Strong business skills, training, and experience with the ability to skillfully communicate those concepts to others. • Solid understanding of financial planning and management.• Build and maintain a strong partnership with the Senior Pastor (making up the Executive Team), but must feel comfortable being an independent decision maker.• Firm and determined to do hard things. • Expert level written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.• Possess a high relational capacity in order to lead staff and have compatibility with Senior Pastor.

THE COMMUNITY

Christ Community Church is located in the central region of North Carolina known as the Sandhills, so named for the area’s sandy soil that gives rise to a very pleasant and mild climate. Over 40 outstanding golf courses have been developed in Moore County with nine belonging to the Pinehurst Resort. Pinehurst Course No. 2 has been home to both the Men’s and Women’s U.S. Opens, most recently hosting both in 2014. While the Sandhills area, particularly Pinehurst, are associated with golf, there is much more to this community.

The Aberdeen-Pinehurst-Southern Pines towns are adjacent to Fort Bragg, an extremely large military installation and the “home” of Special Operations. Many Soldiers choose our family-friendly area as home. Additionally, Moore County has a large and thriving

equestrian community offering academies, events, and competitions. Other major industries include Health Care, Advanced Technologies, Manufacturing, and Hospitality.

Christ Community is conveniently located within a short driving distance to the two largest cities in North Carolina, Charlotte (2-hours) and Raleigh (1-hour) with access to international airports, professional sports teams, and major universities. Also, Moore County residents enjoy close proximity to the best of what North Carolina has to offer: mountains to the west and beaches to the east.

Golf, military service, equestrian pursuits, and more bring a diverse group of people to the Sandhills to work, play, and retire, enriching the

already charming and welcoming Southern culture.
