This month, all our teachers, grades K – 8, are highlighng key digital literacy and cizenship lessons at each grade level. By the end of the month, every student at Oaks and throughout the District will have received five lessons on this topic. All grade levels have different lessons and they build on each other as the students get older. In Kindergarten, as an example, students learn about going online and the rules to remain safe while going online. In grade 1, this builds to how to choose websites that are appropriate for their age group. All lessons were developed by Common Sense Media. You can find all lessons at commonsenseme- dia.org under the educaon/digital cizen- ship. As students in grades 3 – 5 complete these lessons, important paperwork will be going home with students related to the 1:1 iPad program approved by the Santee School District Board of Educaon this summer. Aſter our K – 6 Back to School Night, we’ll be holding a grade 3 – 5 parent meeng to help parents understand the iPad program, instruconal expectaons, and device security. Parents unable to aend an evening meeng will be able to watch a webcast with the same informaon shared. In order for students in each classroom to receive iPads, all the paperwork must be completed and returned to the class- room teacher. We expect to have iPads in the hands of all students in grades 3 – 5 by the end of Trimester 1 (around Thanksgiv- ing me). All students in Ms Venolia’s 2/3 combinaon classroom and Ms Najar’s class will be receiving iPads as well. As menoned in the August 2014 newsleer, our teachers will be provided many hours of professional development this trimester. Teachers will be aending grade level sessions at the District office on implemenng common core math standards; Dream Box, the computer adapve mathe- macs program for student school and home use; SchoolNet, the District’s new instruconal manage- ment suite through our student informaon system; teachers in grades 3 – 5 will receive addional instrucon on the digital learning expectaons using the iPads. In addi- on to this training, we have a group of teachers also involved in the District’s K – 5 math materials pilot. Any purchase of new materials this school year will be implemented in 2015-2016. Arts Attack is a

program geared

toward keeping art

in the classrooms

and we are looking

for Art Docents

for the 2014-15

school year. Each

c l a s s , f r o m

Kindergarten to 8th grade, will need an Art Docent

to volunteer their time to teach the students art

once a month. The lessons, supplies and how to

teach each lesson are provided. I am excited to

announce that Arts Attack now has an art room on

campus where all the art will be done. In February, the Santee School Foundation will

have an Art Show and Auction to raise money to

support the Arts Attack program for our district.

Then in May, our school will put on “The Night of

the Arts”, which display’s a piece of art from each

student and class from work they have done

throughout the year. If you are interested in volunteering as an Art

Docent, please contact your student’s teacher or

DeAnna Tritthart at (619) 994-8820 or

[email protected]. We would love to have

parents, grandparents, family or friends. Thank

you and we look forward to a great year of Art!
