AUSTSWIM teachers play a vital role in supporting these Water Safety Plans; daily AUSTSWIM teachers are the conduit for learning knowledge, skill and understanding that form the basis of aquatic sport and leisure including recreational and competitive swimming, nippers, surf lifesaving, pool lifeguarding just to name a few.

CHANGING THE WAY CHANGE HAPPENSDIANE GRAY (CHANGING CHANGE INTERNATIONAL)

Change is the new constant, so creating a change-ready organisation is a must, but more than that, creating a change-resilient organisational culture is vital. A problem in culture grows faster than a gap in any other area, impacting everything else in its path. Without a strong culture to support the growing vision of your business, any change you make towards success will be made the hard way.

Di Gray, AUSTSWIM Teacher, change specialist, communication and HR strategist, will help turn your culture from a throw-away values statement to a powerful strategy you can almost reach out and touch, as you watch your team’s passion for your business’ success mirror your own.

SWIMMING & WATER SAFETY

ACCESS & INCLUSION – THE THINGS WE REALLY NEED TO KNOWROB AND JENNY SCHOUTEN

AUSTSWIM, as industry leaders, shifted the focus of the Access and Inclusion training to functional ability rather than a medical condition when teaching propulsion and water safety skills. In 2017, the focus for the access and inclusion teacher is to ensure knowledge, skill and understanding to follow an approach that includes physical activity, water safety and personal survival, socialisation and motor learning to develop control and independence in an aquatic environment. Listen to Jenny, the dedicated AUSTSWIM Teacher, and Rob, who has 30 years of experience teaching children with special needs, as they share their unique and successful approach to working with students with challenging behaviours, intellectual and physical disabilities.

If you’ve ever hit the brick wall for new ideas or motivation or perhaps struggled with vertical positioning in water, then this session is sure to inspire as you discover how to transfer aqua movements to swimming drills and vice versa. Christine and Lyn share their video footage for analysis, discussion and implementation. Listen to the leaders, share ideas, transform classes, and take learning and participation to a whole new level.

WATER SKILLS FOR LIFEJONTY MILLS (WATER SAFETY NEW ZEALAND)

Understand the purpose and potential of the Framework and Benchmarking for Australia and New Zealand. Royal Life Saving Society Australia highlights the results on the swimming and water safety skills achieved by primary school aged children and explores how these provide an evidence base for the Swimming and Water Safety Framework and National Benchmark as prescribed by the Australian Water Safety Council.

Water Safety New Zealand undertook a review into the way basic water survival skills are taught to children aged five to thirteen in New Zealand. The review looked at national and international water safety, swimming and drowning prevention research to find out whether the current teaching of aquatic skills in New Zealand provided kids with adequate water safety skills.

THE PHYSICS OF FEEDBACKJOANNE LOVE (JOANNE LOVE ELITE PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT)

Managing swim centres is a tough job and we all know we should continually find time to make progress and do things better, but how do we actually go about making it happen?

Our two leaders speak about their first hand knowledge and experience in analysing and reviewing good business systems.

Kath brings a real-life and practical approach to a whole-of-service review within a large council-based leisure environment, whilst Joanne highlights that great feedback not only boosts performance and drives engagement, but also helps build a great culture and winning organisation.

EARLY AQUATICS – A NEW ERA OF RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES JULIE ZANCANARO (HILLS SWIMMING)

Most International leaders in the field of Early Aquatics agree that the Rights of Children may be violated in some early programs of swimming and water safety. Join Julie, a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, AUSTSWIM Teacher and Swim School Owner Operator, as she explores a changing international perspective and stance on forceful and potentially traumatic teaching methods for infants and young children. Whilst all children need to be protected in lessons, and beginners of all ages should be taught with patience and respect; babies under 12 months are the most vulnerable. Leave this session with a better understanding of safe and developmentally sound practices to make children more skilled in, on and around water, with the well-being of the whole child always at the core of our teaching philosophies.

CHANGING THE WAY CHANGE HAPPENSDIANE GRAY (CHANGING CHANGE INTERNATIONAL)

Change is the new constant, so creating a change-ready organisation is a must, but more than that, creating a change-resilient organisational culture is vital.
