I would like to take this time to acknowledge the Dreamcatcher Charitable foundation, having supported my
oldest son Bryce Addington Simon in his first year of organized hockey where he played tyke with the Sarnia
Minor Hockey Association, and for my second son that has been second to non, Blake Douglas Simon who
joined the instructional players every Saturday morning 7:00. This experience for them has been a great op-
portunity to help grow their young minds with important values such as sportsmanship, the ability to be
proud of the game that they played, but also happy for the chance to play the opposite team. Going to practice
taught Bryce And Blake commitment, being there on time helped them to learn punctuality. So, thank you
Dream Catcher Foundation, looking foreword to next season.

Aamjiwnaang Education Symposium “Reconciliation through Education”
May 4th & 5th, 2017 The Education Symposium was a huge success. Eighty educators and administrators from the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB), St. Clair Catholic Separate Board (SCCSB), and First Nation communities were in attendance over the 2-day symposium. The purpose of the symposium was multi-faceted, such as: to provide quality and innovative pro-fessional development for educators to better support indigenous students, families and commu-nities; to strengthen relationships and provide networking opportunities; to provide culturally-appropriate professional development, and share relevant historical and background information about Indigenous Education in Canada and issues that impact today’s contemporary classroom and society. Keynote Speakers: James Kaagegaabaw and Eddy Robinson. Other presenters: Kim Henry, Roger Williams, Christy Bressette, JoAnn Henry, Nick Bertrand, Zandra Bear-Lowen, Joseph “Ponchie” Plain, Eddie Taylor, and Mike Plain Contributing Elders: Pauline Williams, Geraldine Robertson, Susie Jones, Sylvia Deleary There were two panel discussions: Understanding Indigenous Education in Canada, and Support-ing Educators Practically: Insights and Practical Examples shared on the Importance of Relation-ships between the LKDSB and the Indigenous Liaison Committee. Shown below from the one discussion is the Panel Moderator: Lareina Rising, LKDSB
Indigenous Trustee, along with Panel Members (from left to right): Dave Doey, LKDSB (retired),

Anishinabek Education System—Update
On December 2, 2016 Aamjiwnaang successfully ratified the Anishinabek Nation Education Agreement. As a next step in that process, on May 9, 2017, Aamjiwnaang Council signed a Band Council Resolution (BCR) to approve and sign the Master Education Agree-ment between:
THE ANISHINABEK FIRST NATIONS (the “Anishinabek First Nations”) -And- THE KINOOMAADZIWIN EDUCATION BODY (the “KEB”) -AND- HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN IN RIGHT OF ONTARIO as represented by the Minister of Education (“Ontario”).
The objectives of the agreement are to: a) realize the shared vision for student success and well-being that addresses
physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being; b) enhance the collaboration among the Anishinabek First Nations, the
Kinoomaadziwin Education Body, Ontario and School Boards; c) enhance opportunities for the engagement and participation of students,
families, and communities to support student success and well-being; d) increase knowledge and understanding of Bimaadziwin, Kendaaswin and
Anishinaabe languages in Anishinabek First Nations’ schools and schools in the Provincially-Funded Education System;
e) facilitate the transition of students between Anishinabek First Nations’ schools and schools in the Provincially-Funded Education System; and
f) establish a process to collaborate on and monitor the ongoing alignment of standards between Anishinabek First Nations’ schools and the Provincially-Funded Education System.
