The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson.

• This book by Julia Donaldson is very bright and colourful on the cover and also throughout the book. The book is filled with pages of illustration that sets the scene of the story. Every page has a illustration of a forest which is continued threw the book.

• The book has a reasonable amount of text suitable for children aged 5-9 to read by themselves or for young children if the book is read to them.

• The book also has some of its texts on a plain white background with small size illustrations. For example, When describing the Gruffalo in the book, small amounts of illustration are used to show each thing being described.

• The illustration of this book by Axel Scheffler looks hand drawn but could have been animated on a computer as the colours are very vibrant.

• The fonts used in this book are all different as the title on the cover of the book uses a font that looks like it is hand drawn and is very bold.

• The information about the writer and the publisher is in a very small standard font for adults that is sans serif. The texts for children in the story is serif with use of italics to emphasis certain parts of the text.

Wiggly Caterpillars Big Change

• My first impression about this book is that it is very bright and uses lots of different pastel colours. The text is also in different colours on the cover however, inside the text is black, so it stands out from the background.

• The illustrations are very big and fill up the whole page in this book and there is very minimal amount of text with only a few lines per page. At the end of the book, there is a large pop up as the ending of the story with a few lines accompanying it.

• I think that the illustrations to this book are probably hand draw as the lines of the characters are very soft and subtle. I also think that the illustrations my be done with water colour as the shading creates this effect.

• Big and bold fonts are used on the cover of the book, however, the text inside is considerably smaller and the lines of the sentences curve up and down.

• There is not much text on each page of the book as there is around 2-5 lines per page. There is also only 10 pages in this book as it is a relatively short story.

We’re going to a PARTY! By Jeanne Willis

• This book uses lots of soft colours in its illustrations however, the colours are darker than the other books I have looked at as it is an older book.

• The title is very big on the cover and the word ‘party’ is all in capital letters. The book includes lift ups throughout the book with text written on them and a pop up at the end of the book.
