God is the Creator of all things. He has a planfor everything, even human beings. God cre-ated us for the purpose of becoming mem-bers of His divine family. He shows us howwe can become members through Hisannual feasts and Holy Days. Each day pictures a step in God’sPlan to expand His family.

In this Lesson, we will learnabout the first three feasts:Passover, Days ofUnleavened Bread, andPentecost.

Thousands of years ago, the Israelites were slaves inEgypt. They worked long and hard hours. Because theywere under the rule of Pharaoh, they were not allowed tokeep the Sabbath. They quickly forgot God. Yet, Godheard their cries for help and saw their bondage. He senta man named Moses to deliver them. God told Moses tospeak to Pharaoh and tell him, “Let My people go!”

Pharaoh quickly said “No!” He did not want to loose hisworkforce. Moses kept asking, but Pharaoh would notagree. Each time Pharaoh said no, God sent a plague onthe people of Egypt. This happened nine times.

We will learn about the tenth plague that God sent onEgypt. This plague is so important because it has a lot todo with the meaning of Passover.

The tenth plague was the death of all the firstborn inEgypt. This included both man and animals. A firstborn isthe eldest of a family, or the first child born to a motherand father.

God did not want this plague to harm the Israelites. Onthe night of the Passover, the Israelites were to roast ahealthy lamb and eat it with their families. With the meal, they were to eat unleavened bread and bitter herbs. To beprotected from the plague, God commanded theIsraelites to spread the lamb’s blood on the doorposts oftheir homes. God’s death angel would see the blood andPASS OVER their homes. The Israelites were to eat unleav-ened bread for seven days.

God commanded the Passover to be kept every year. When Jesus Christ came to this earth, He changed theway Passover is kept. He took the place of the lamb.God’s people do not have to kill a lamb and spread theblood on their doorposts anymore.

On Passover night, your parents attend a special serv-ice. They wash the feet of other members. This shows aserving and humble attitude. They eat a piece of unleav-ened bread. This reminds them that Jesus was terriblybeaten before His death so we could be healed when weare sick. Then they drink a small glass of wine. This showsthat Christ’s blood was poured out of His body. Christ liveda perfect life here on earth, but He died so we could beforgiven of our sins.

The Days of Unleavened Bread are the second stepin God’s Plan. This feast is not one day. It lasts for oneweek. We keep this feast by not eating anything with leav-en in it. God tells us that we are to remove all leaveningout of our homes during these seven days. That is whyprior to this feast your mother and father clean the entire

house and kitchen cupboards. They throw away all thebread, cookies, cakes and crackers because they all con-tain leavening.

Because God says we cannot eat leavened products,we are to eat unleavened bread every day.

The Days of Unleavened Bread pictures our putting sinand wrongdoing out of our lives continually. As withbread, leavening puffs food up. Sin does this to us. Godwants us to clean up our lives of sin before it spreads andpuffs us up. Eating unleavened bread for seven daysreminds us that we are to obey Him. When God says todo something, He expects that we obey Him. As you helpyour mother clean the house this year, remember thatGod wants us to learn a lesson from this feast.

Pentecost is the next Holy Day that we keep. It is alsoknown as the Feast of Firstfruits. This feast is calledPentecost because it means “count fifty.” From the

Circle the food that is not leavened or puffed up.

Sunday after the Sabbathduring the Days ofUnleavened Bread, we countfifty days. This brings us toPentecost. Pentecost pic-tures the Church as thespring harvest.

Christ came to earth manyyears ago. He died onPassover and was resurrect-ed after being dead for threedays and three nights. Hethen went to heaven to bewith God. Fifty days later onthe day of Pentecost Godsent His Holy Spirit toChrist’s disciples. This iswhen the New TestamentChurch began.

The Holy Spirit givesGod’s people special help.God gives it to those whohave been baptized. Beforebeing baptized, a persondoes not have the HolySpirit. As children of bap-tized parents, you have theHoly Spirit working with you. When you are grown up andbaptized, you will receive the

Holy Spirit in your mind. It will help you to do what is rightand to obey God.

Pentecost is also called the Feast of Firstfruits becauseit pictures the people in God’s Church today as the “first-fruits” of all those who will be called during and after theMillennium. God will call many more people to understandHis way of life. The “firstfruits” will help Christ to teach therest of the world during the Millennium. Christ is the firstof the “firstfruits” because He is the only one who hasbeen born into the Family of God. When Christ returns toearth again, all who have ever lived will have an opportu-nity to learn God’s Way.

In the special Fall Festival Lesson, you will learn moreabout the coming 1,000-year-rule of Jesus Christ and thesaints. The Passover, the Days of Unleavened Bread andPentecost show the first three steps in God’s Master Plan.
