Children in Need Day

Last Friday we all came to school dressed as superheroes, in fancy dress or in spots to raise money for Children

in Need. It was very reassuring to know that if any evil was to fall upon the school we’d have been able to call

upon at least twelve spidermen, five supermen, a hulk and even an Elsa or two! What’s more we managed to

raise a very impressive £120! Thank you for all of your support.

Coats in School

Now that the miserable weather is quite definitely here, please can parents

make sure that children come to school with a coat everyday. We do try

our best to let the children get some fresh air at play and lunchtimes even

when there is light rain, but to do this children must have a coat to wear.

FOPS Meeting

Our next FOPS meeting will be on Monday next week (23rd Nov) straight after school in Trelawny Class (Year 5). All

parents are most welcome to attend. It is always nice to see new members; you can commit as much or as little

time to help or just come along to find out what it’s all about.

Maths 99 Club

In order to strengthen our mental maths, over the last 2 weeks Year 6 have been trialing a scheme called the 99

club. This has proved to be a great success and so far 17 children have entered the 99 club with 2 of these pro-

gressing beyond this and into the bronze club.

Due to this success, all pupils in Year 1 – 6 are aiming to be members of the 99 club by correctly answering 99

times table questions in 10 minutes! Not all children will be able to achieve this therefore there is a progression of

clubs for children to start on. Children will begin on the club their class teacher feels is most appropriate for them

from the 11 club up to the 99 club. Each club is named after the number of questions that the entrance exam has

and covers the following areas which has a 10 minute time limit:

11 club – addition to 10

22 club – addition to 20

33 club – 2 and 10 times tables with addition up to 20

44 club – 2, 5 and 10 times tables with addition up to 20

55 club – 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables

66 club – 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10 times tables

77 club – 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 times tables

88 club – 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 times tables

99 club - 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 times tables and related division questions

For each level, children will receive a certificate and, once membership to the 99 club has been achieved, they

will have their photograph added to the “99 club hall of fame” which is located in the school hall.

When a child has entered the 99 club, they can try to achieve bronze, silver, gold and finally platinum status. Each

stage will earn the child a certificate and a badge. These stages get progressively harder and less time is allowed

for completion:

Bronze -100 times table and related division questions up to the 12th multiple (4 minutes)

Silver - 100 times table and related division questions up to the 12th multiple (3 ½ minutes)

Gold - 100 times table and related division questions up to the 12th multiple including squaring and square roots (3

minutes)

Platinum – 100 multi step questions covering all four operations (+, -, x and ÷) to be completed in 2 ½ minutes

Toddler Group Help

As many of you will know, each Tuesday morning Perranporth runs a toddler group in our

school hall. This group is now extremely popular which is brilliant, but we could do with

some help to make sure that it continues to run so smoothly. If you are interested in lend-

ing a hand each week, please let the School Office know (01872 572021). Thank you.

Christmas Decorations

This year we would like to make our Christmas tree a little bit more creative and

exciting! We would like to invite children and families to get their creative hands

busy and make a decoration for our tree. The decorations can be made in any

way you like and using a variety of materials and ideas - it’s up to you! All we ask

is that each decoration has a way of attaching it to the tree and is carefully

named so we can return them before Christmas. Please bring any finished decora-

tions to your class teacher who will keep them safely until our tree arrives.
