Peter Laviolette was hired as the second head coach in Nashville Predators history on May 6, 2014. Laviolette is second in wins among U.S.-born NHL coaches and one just eight men employed as an NHL head coach at the start of the 2014-15 season to have won a Stanley Cup(with CAR in 2006). After winning his first two games behind the bench in Nashville, Laviolette passed Hall of Famer Fred Shero on the all-time NHL win's list. OnSaturday, Nov. 15 vs. the Jets, he tallied his 400th win as an NHL head coach. In parts of 12 seasons with NYI (2001-03), CAR (2003-09) and PHI (2009-14), he has compiled a career coaching record of 389-282-(25)-63(866 points), with each of the three teams improving exponentially in the first full season after he took the helm. The former d-man began his coaching career after 11 seasons playing professionally in the National, International and American HockeyLeagues, and internationally for the U.S. National Team.
