Shootin’ The Bull

10 August was the day for the pistol shooters to get back to the basics and shoot the pistol with one hand like the “big boys”. We fired the “Camp Perry” course which is 10 shots slow fire, two strings of “timed fire”; 5 shots in 20 seconds and two stings of “rapid fire”; 5 shots in 10 seconds. These three stages are repeated three times for a total of 90 shots for the tournament. This is open to both semiautomatics as well as revolvers and since no reload is necessary, the two categories are treated equal. The only classes are center fire and rim fire.

When the final scoring was finished, Larry Mongue won the rim fire class firing a 714/900 with Gene Blackburn in second with 547/900 and A.T. Sorrells in third with 539/900.

The center fire was won by A.T. Sorrells at 536/900 followed by Wayne Chapman with 427/900.

There is obviously a learning curve in this game and

maybe next time the scores will be higher. Art shoots this also in his Modified Military Matches so there is an opportunity to get practice. .

Rimfire & Centerfire Benchrest Match Results Match Director: Larry Mongue

On Aug.4th we had our Rimfire Benchrest match starting at 10am. We had 14 shooters.

This time we had our regular shoot plus we shot a "know your limits" target then added the scores together. The winners were Scoped Hunter: 1st Larry Mongue, 2nd Jerome Scheiber,

3rd John Hagan--Scoped Open: 1st Francis Moates, 2nd Jim Welch,3rd Ed Jones. Iron Sights Hunter: 1st Jerome Scheiber, 2nd Russ Schoetker,3rd Jim Vance.

Iron Sights Open: 1st Jim Welch.2nd George Holb, 3rd Matt Van Steen. At 12 :30 we started shooting the Centerfire Varmint Benchrest Match.

6 shooters attended. Winners were 6mm & down: 1st John Hagan, 2nd Gene Blackburn, 3rd Larry Mongue. Above 6mm: 1st John Hagan, 2nd Russ Schoetker, 3rd Larry Mongue.

Starting at the next Centerfire Benchrest match I am adding another class - Centerfire Pistol Cartridge Rifle. Thanks to all who attended and see you for the next Benchrest Match

on October 12th at 10am for Rimfire and 1pm for Centerfire.

October High Power Rifle

and Bullseye Pistol Aggregate Match

This is a reminder that the High Power Rifle(s) and Bullseye Pistol Matches will be held on Saturday, October 5th. The format and rules can be found at chatugegunclub.com under

“Matches”. The Across-The-Course match, (XTC), will begin at 1000. The 100-yard F-Class match will follow at 1300 and the Bullseye Pistol match will wrap things up, starting at 1400.

Competitors will shot 50 shots for record in the High Power Rifle match. Any iron-sight,

centerfire rifle that will hold a minimum of 5 shots and can be reloaded with a clip or magazine may be used. The F/TR Rifle match, (Unlimited Scoped), will require 20 shots for record. All shots are single loaded, 10 slow-fire and 10 rapid-fire. The Bullseye Pistol match is open to

any handgun, centerfire or rimfire, iron or red dot sights. Record fire will consist of 90 shots.

Shootist points will be awarded for each match and to the aggregate winners of the three matches.

Remember that you are only required to compete in all three matches to be in the aggregate

standings. Those that only wish to participate in one or two of the matches may do so.

On Saturday, August 31st, a High Power Rifle clinic / match and Bullseye Pistol match were held. Although the turnout for the matches was lite,

the High Power Rifle clinic was well attended.

With the assistance of guest shooter, Adam Figueroa, Art Douville presented an overview of the High Power Rifle sport.

Seven shooters competed in the 50-shot, High Power, Across the Course match. The winner, with an impressive 472-14X was Adam Figueroa.

The Bullseye Pistol match, 4 competitors, was won by Artie Depup with a 705-6X. Scores and photos are posted on the Chatuge Gun Club web page under Matches/Results.

Shootist points will be awarded to the following individuals. The next High Power Rifle and Bullseye Pistol matches will be Saturday, October 5th.
