NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Congratulations to CCHS seniors Alyssa Nelson, Elizabeth Gregory, and Lewis Nazarian for being selected as Charlotte Catholic’s 2018-2019 nominees for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill! Winners receive a full academic scholarship to UNC.

MACS Schools Closed Tomorrow: All MACS schools will be closed on Friday, September 14th due to the anticipated inclement weather caused by Hurricane Florence. to our campus this week. Charlotte Catholic alumni are welcome to visit at any time, and we always enjoy their visits. For the security of our students, our policy asks all visitors, including alumni, to stop at the main office first to sign in and get a visitor badge. If alumni are accompanied by friends or family members who are not CCHS alumni, we ask that they obtain prior approval from administration before bringing non-alumni guests to our campus.

CCHS Foundation: Fall is the season for many corporate giving campaigns. CCHS parents, please take a moment to review the CCHS Foundation flyer at the end of the announcements for information on employee donations, matching donations, corporate giving campaigns, and more. As always, thank you for considering a donation to the CCHS Foundation, which exists solely for the purpose of supporting Charlotte Catholic High School.

MACS Open Board Meeting: Parents are invited to attend the next MACS Open Board Meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, September 18th at 7:00 p.m. in the New Life Center at St. Matthew Catholic Church. All are welcome. Please see the flyer at the end of the announcements.

College Visits: Please review the following list of colleges and universities that will visit CCHS next week. Juniors and seniors who are interested in speaking with a representative from these colleges and universities should go to Naviance and print the confirmation page, which serves as the pass to attend. GENERAL

Bus Parking Lot: Parents and students, please do not park in the three large parking spaces behind the visitors’ side of the stadium, adjacent to the paved lot. These spaces are for MACS buses only. Signs will be installed soon, designating these as bus parking spaces only.

Freshman Parent Q&A: Parents of freshmen, please plan to attend one of the two Freshman Parent Q&A programs, which will take place next week. Parents of students with last names A – Le should attend on Wednesday, September 19th at 8:00 a.m. in the Library. Parents of freshmen with last names Li – Z should attend on Thursday, September 20th at 8:00 a.m. in the Library.

STUDENT NEWS

New Advice Column in the Catholic Chronicle: Students, the school newspaper now will feature an advice column! Any students who would like advice may email their problems or questions to [email protected]. All published problems and questions will remain anonymous. The Catholic Chronicle can be accessed on the school website by clicking here.

Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board Applications Now Available: The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board is now accepting applications for 2018-2019 board membership. Apply now if you would like to work directly with the Superintendent and other school leaders to share your ideas for a broader educational experience and a better school system. This is a chance to have your opinions heard and to be a part of positive changes to our Catholic school system. As a board member, you will attend approximately three to four meetings per year, during the school day. Membership will include high school students from the three high schools in the Diocese of Charlotte. Successful candidates will be creative, interested in the success of our school system, effective communicators, and school leaders. Applications for prospective Board members are available online now and due by 5:00 p.m. tomorrow, September 14th. Click here for the application.

CCHS Mountain Bike Club Team: Mountain Biking is a co-ed sport that is

CAMPUS MINISTRY

Caritas Service Days: Students, if you are involved in a charity or service

project on a regular basis, please contact MJ Dawson in Campus Ministry at [email protected] and let her know for our Caritas Service Days. Thank you.

Kairos Retreat: Kairos #42 is scheduled for Friday, October 12th through Sunday, October 14th at Camp Thunderbird. The retreat is open to all juniors and seniors. Please pick up a brochure in Campus Ministry. For more information, contact MJ Dawson, Campus Minister, at [email protected]. Scholarships are available.

COUNSELING

Service Academy Day: Students interested in attending a service academy are

invited, along with their parents, to attend Service Academy Day on Saturday, September 22nd from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The event will be held at Wake Tech’s Southern (Main) Campus, located at 9101 Fayetteville Road in Raleigh. Doors open at 9:45 a.m. Attendees will be able to meet with representatives from each service academy, ask questions about the nomination process and requirements, and meet one-on-one with a staff member from Senator Thom Tillis’ office. Christian College Fair: Charlotte Christian School will host a Christian College Fair on Monday, September 24th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Click here for more information.

Game Day: Talk, Tour, and Tailgate: Lenoir-Rhyne University is hosting an

event on Saturday, September 29th for students interested in learning more about the school. Students and two guests are invited to attend a Lenoir-Rhyne football game, explore the campus, and learn more about the university. Students and guests receive free game admission and a complimentary dinner. Check-in is at 1:00 p.m., dinner is at 5:15 p.m., and kickoff is at 6:00 p.m. Click here to register. CCHS Club Day: All students are invited to come to Club Day on Tuesday, September 18th from 2:35 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the gym. Charlotte Catholic has clubs on campus to fit the interests of every student. Club Day is a great opportunity to learn more about the many clubs on campus, which involve service, sports, games, hobbies, art, language, charity, faith, and more. All students are encouraged to learn more, sign up, and become involved!

CCHS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

CCHSAA Fall Sports Program – Advertising Deadline Extended: Sponsorships

are available now to parents who would like to advertise a business in this upcoming publication. The Fall Sports Program will have photos of all fall athletic teams, cheerleaders, dance team, and marching band. CCHS FOUNDATION

Kara Kloiber Memorial Scholarship: Kara Ann Kloiber ’93 cherished her time at

CCHS. She saw her school as a faith community where friends lasted forever and teachers became like family. Kara’s family established a scholarship in her memory, which provides tuition support to current CCHS students. Students may click here to print an application through the CCHS Foundation website, or see Mrs. Smith in the Guidance Office for a copy. Applications must be completed by students and signed by parents, and are due to Mrs. Smith on or before Thursday, September 20th.

Join the PTO: If you have not done so already, please join us! Congratulations to Ari Rodriguez, who has been nominated as one of the WSOC-TV Big 22 Players to Watch! Our CCHS community is invited to vote for Ari to become one of five finalists. The voting period closes on Thursday, October 4th at 11:59 p.m. Should Ari be voted a finalist, a second voting period will open, and if he wins the contest, he receives a trophy and on-air

COMMUNITY NEWS

Opportunity for Service Hours: The St. Gabriel Men’s Club will hold its annual Oyster Roast on October 20th, and many hands are needed. Help is needed that day from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. for setup, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for serving, and from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. for cleanup. Help also is needed on Sunday, October 21st from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. for equipment breakdown. Students needing service hours are asked to volunteer by contacting Mr. Pete Mussoni at [email protected].

Tutoring Volunteers Needed: The Morrison Regional Library Teen Tutoring program is recruiting Teen Tutors now for the 2018-2019 school year. Students who are interested in participating in this service opportunity should contact Paulina Barrier at [email protected]. The Library will pair tutors with children who will benefit from a Teen Tutor. Please consider helping out the community through this program.
