Polymer Camp: The Wilson College of Textiles at NC State offers this two-day

workshop for high school juniors interested in studying physical sciences or engineering. This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about Polymer Color Chemistry, Textile Engineering, or Textile Technology degree programs. The application opens March 1st and closes May 31st. Summer Textile Exploration Program: The application for the Wilson College of Textiles Summer Textile Exploration Program (STEP) is open to rising high school seniors. The Wilson College holds five one-week sessions of STEP each summer. Participants live on campus, learn about degree programs, the admissions process, and scholarship opportunities. The program cost is $250 for each participant, and limited financial aid is available. Each student has the opportunity to rank his or her level of interest in Apparel Design, Textile Engineering, Business Management, Textile Design, and Polymer Chemistry. National Catholic College Admission Association Scholarship: The National CCAA Scholarship is a one-time $1,000 award given to eight college-bound high school seniors from various geographic regions, who will attend one of the member institutions of the National CCAA in the fall of 2019. Click here for information about the scholarship and to apply. The application is brief and will take just a few minutes to complete. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 15th, and award recipients will be selected in mid- to late March. Gene Marie Alfaro Scholarship: The St. Matthew Columbiettes will be awarding

their 15th annual scholarship in memory of Gene Marie Alfaro. Any Catholic high school senior who will pursue a career in Nursing or another health care field is welcome to apply for this $1,000 scholarship. Applications must be received by Friday, April 5th. Students interested in applying should contact Mrs. Smith, Counseling Assistant at [email protected] for more information and to obtain an application.

Fellowship Friday Fish Fry: The CCHSAA is hosting an evening of fellowship and

fun at Charlotte Catholic on Friday, March 15th from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Please join the Athletic Association in the Cafeteria as we celebrate our fantastic Cougar community!

o Online pre-ordering of meals is encouraged! Click here to order. o Adult plates (two 4 oz. filets, fries, slaw, and hushpuppies) are $8 in

advance and $10 at the door. o Kids’ plates (one 4 oz. filet, fries, slaw, and hushpuppies) are $5. o Cheese pizza is available for $2 per slice. o Takeout boxes will be available. o The Mountain Biking Team will have baked goods available for sale for

CURRENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

GENERAL

All-school Mass on Friday: All-school Masses are held on the first Friday of each month. Our next Mass will be celebrated tomorrow, March 1st at 8:36 a.m. in the gym. Everyone in our extended CCHS community is welcome.

Half Day on Friday: Please note that Friday, March 1st is a half day of school. CCHS will dismiss students at noon on Friday. Buses will leave CCHS at 12:15 p.m. The school office will close at 12:00 p.m. If you need a Driver Eligibility form completed, please plan accordingly.

2019-2020 Re-enrollment Information from MACS: The process for current

MACS families to re-enroll for the 2019-2020 school year will be online and available during the first week of March. Parents will receive more information from MACS soon via email.

Heart of a Champion Day: Mark your calendars now for this year’s Heart of a Champion Day, which has been scheduled for Saturday, June 1st. CCHS student-athletes entering grades 9 through 12 are invited to attend this annual event, which offers free sports physicals as well as orthopedic, nutritional, and general wellness assessments. Student-athletes also receive heart screenings that are not offered at routine athletic physicals, to detect health risks before they become issues. Watch for more information and registration soon!

Diaper Drive for Mira Via: The Mira Via club is sponsoring a diaper drive which will end on Friday, March 1st. All diaper sizes are needed and welcomed. Collection boxes will be located in the hallway across from Campus Ministry.

STUDENT NEWS

Amaryllis News: Students, the Cougar Chronicle’s literary journal, The Amaryllis, is open for literary submissions through April 1st. Student-written short stories and poems are welcome and, new this year, comic strips and personal essays. Please send submissions to [email protected].

Attention Ms. McManus’ Junior Art Students: Those interested in taking AP Art next year need to check their email and sign up online for a portfolio review this week. Thank you.

CCHS Sadie Hawkins Dance: The CCHS Student Council is sponsoring a Sadie

Hawkins Dance! The St. Patrick’s-themed dance will be held in the gym on Saturday, March 16th from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Please spread the word and encourage your friends to attend the dance!

tie. You do not have to wear green because of the St. Patrick’s Day theme.

Q. What if I bring a guest from a different school? A. Guest forms are at the front desk and must be filled out and turned in to Mr. Belk by Thursday, March 14th. Any guest from another school needs to be at least a high school freshman.

CAMPUS MINISTRY

Kairos XLIII: Juniors and seniors, Kairos 43 will be held March 1st through March 3rd at Camp Thunderbird. Joining us on Kairos XLIII will be Bishop England from Charleston and Blessed Trinity from Atlanta. Get your application in now! Come by the Campus Ministry office to pick up a brochure. Freshmen and Sophomore Cougar Caritas: As Catholics and Christians, we are called to imitate our Lord by joyfully serving others with our time, our treasure, and our talents. One way we do this is by taking part in Cougar Caritas, a cavalcade of service opportunities during school hours in our community. The service day for the freshman and sophomore classes is Tuesday, March 26th.

o Each student will sign up for the service project of his or her choice

through Sign-up Genius a week before the project. Details for each project will be located on the Sign-up Genius. Campus Ministry will notify students when projects are available for sign-up.

o Bus transportation will be arranged. o Parents: Your child will receive a permission slip through religion class.

There will be no formal classes for freshman and sophomores on this day, as teachers also will participate in Cougar Caritas. We ask parents to please complete and return permission slips in by Friday, March 8th.

o We are in need of several parents to assist our faculty and help chaperone our students. Please email MJ Dawson in Campus Ministry if you can help or with any questions.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers scholarship opportunities to students of Hispanic heritage who are seniors in high school, to apply toward next year’s college tuition. UK College-Fair event will be held at Charlotte Country Day School on Thursday, March 7th, from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The five leading UK Universities (Bristol, Durham, Newcastle, Southampton, and York) will host a Studying in the UK presentation and mini college fair. CCHSAA Bag Tag Fundraiser: The CCHSAA is selling personalized bag tags, a fun spirit item and a great way to identify equipment bags, book bags, and luggage. Bag tags will have the student’s sport on one side, and name and jersey number on the other. Tags are available for all sports, and also for all clubs at CCHS. A generic version with only the CCHS logo is available as well.
