At the same time he urged all concerned to take concrete actionto reduce dependency on fossil fuel. The Transport Department acknowledging that the biggest contributor in expenditureon account of operation of buses is fuel, had worked on a mission mode to reduce theexpenditure by improving the efficiency. In the first phase, existing data was analyzedand a plan was prepared to achieve a target which was fixed after a series of road testswith real load conditions to increase the KMPL (Kilometer per Litre) in buses. Various simultaneous actions like improved preventive maintenance, threadbareanalysis of the performance data, constant monitoring, proper driving etc wasundertaken. This concerted action by the Department resulted in not only tremendousimprovement on the KMPL sector but also improved the quality and reliability of publictransport provided by the Department, a communication from the Deputy Director(Admn.) said here today.
