Cloud Computing: Main Objectives
15.06.2010 4
Understanding business opportunities
• Faster time-to-market, and cost-effective innovation processes
• Dynamic (trans-)formation of open service and business networks
• Leveraging the participation Web and mass programming
Internet-scale service computing
• Provide and consume sophisticated infrastructure, platforms and business applications as modular (Web) services
• Disrupt traditional industries and offer rich, highly dynamic experiences
Enterprise-grade systems management
• Under-utilized server resources waste computing power and energy
• Over-utilized servers cause interruption or degradation of service levels

Cloud Ecosystem
Jens Nimis: Chancen, Herausforderungen und Trends
LaaS offers fast and easy provisioning of multiple interelated Cloud components
Goal: Cloud Computing system that allows coordinated provisioning of multiple, disjoint and complete system landscapes
Therefore images containing the different components/systems of the landscape are parameterized and instantiated
Also relations and constraints between the components of a landscape are considered during image construction and instantiation and inside the landscape/cloud controller
The landscape provision service must allow for altering of the system landscape setup to satisfy changing customer needs
Typical use cases related to the altering of a system landscape include
• Adding additional systems to overcome high loads or extend the functionality
• Replace systems inside the landscape
• Remove systems from the landscape

Generic LaaS Architecture

In this Use Case comprehensive SAP system landscapes shall be provided
• basically for test and development
• on demand to a customer as a self-service in a LaaS fashion
• under consideration of relations and constraints inside the system landscape
Constraints given by a SAP system landscape
• can be implemented by configuring images accordingly as well as by enforcing constraints inside the controller of the landscape provisioning system
• During image definition specific constraints like f.i. transports between SAP systems (DTP/DQP-landscape) can be predefined
• In a landscape/cloud controller the instanciation sequence of SAP systems can be policed f.i.

Research Agenda for the European Cloud Community
15.06.2010
Main Recommendations:
• R1: EC should stimulate research and technological development
• R2: EC together with Member States should set up the right regulatory framework to facilitate the uptake of Cloud computing
Additional Recommendations:
• AR1: The EU needs large scale research and experimentation test beds
• AR2: The EC together with industrial and public stakeholders should develop joint programmes encourage expert collaboration groups
• AR3: The EC should encourage the development and production of (a) Cloud interoperation standards (b) an open source reference implementation
• AR4: The EC should promote the European leadership position in software through commercially relevant open source approaches
